2 already exists somewhat, but it's called Chromeless windows. I expect
it wouldn't be 'too' hard to implement in (downstream) Firefox but yeah,
this is why they were suggesting a switch to Chromium. There are many
reasons why they wouldn't for Saucy (although the debate continues for
T-series)

Antti I am following your advice, but the upgrade didn't pull up any new
version of the HUD.
The version I have now in today's image (saucy-49) is
13.10.1+13.10.20130822.4-0ubuntu1, and the hud still has the same problem as I
mentioned before.

The bluetooth applet I use in XFCE is blueman-applet. It appears as an
indicator but also does not display any options when clicked on. Only a
small empty box appears under the indicator.
Here's the error message when I click on the indicator:
