[Dx4win] QRZ Error: Database not found

2006-06-14 Thread Fred Lloyd AA7BQ
Hi,

The problem is that you're using an outdated DLL. There are two
DLL's on the CDROM,
one which is installed in the Developer's directory and one which is
installed when
you perform the QRZ Setup.

The older DLL requires that the data be located in D:\callbk whereas
the newer DLL
will allow the data to be anywhere.

You should do a File-Search and look for all copies of qrz32.dll on
your system.
Remove all copies that you find and then insert the QRZ CDROM and run
Setup.EXE.
This will install the new and correct DLL.

Once you're done, it may be necessary to place a copy of this DLL in
the DX4WIN
folder (perhaps).

I set up my DX4WIN preferences as follows:

When I try to use F3 lookup I get the following error:

 QRZ Error: Database not found

 Thanks for the help folks.

Data Directory should have been set to E:\ (only) which is the
location of the QRZ data on my hard drive.

That worked, *** but only for a little while ***

Then I got the QRZ Error: Database not found messages again.

I then found that if I put the QRZ! CDROM back into my computer
(into EITHER my CD or DVD drive, it didn't matter), then the
lookups worked again, but it was always going to the CD to find them!

I tried updating (Microsoft Update) Microsoft Net Framework 1.0
SP3, and then Net Framework 1.1, but that had no effect.

I don't know why it worked for a little while from the hard drive,
 then stopped working.

This is on Windows XP Professional with all the service packs, etc.
 installed.

THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS using the GOlist GOWIN software, so I
 don't think it's specific to DX4WIN.

Subject: [Dx4win] ADIF Import question

Maybe this has been asked a 100 times before, but I can't find it... my
apologies if this is a dupe...

I am trying to import contest logs into DX4WIN, using the ADIF format. I
want the name of the contest imported, to be displayed as a Notes For
This
QSO. The ADIF file has the name of the contest listed with the standard
field name CONTEST_ID but I can't get DX4WIN to do anything with this
field... it seems to ignores this field, and instead creates its own
COMMENT field by taking the frequency of the QSO and the QSO Number and
putting that in the Notes For This QSO field.

I've been able to circumvent this, sort of, by manually editing the ADIF
file and changing the CONTEST_ID field name to COMMENT. DX4WIN then DOES
bring in the Contest Name into the Notes For This QSO field, and then
appends the Frequency (I really don't want this -- who cares?) and the QSO
number (this is OK)... making a big Notes field of Contest Name +
Frequency + QSO Number -- but it fits.

 Is there a better way?

[Dx4win] Using DX4WIN, QRZ and GOWIN

I finally got the QRZ CDROM callsign database working with both
DX4WIN and GOWIN. It was not as straightforward as it should have

Does anyone know what this field in the Extdata Preferences does:

Callsign lookup address: http://www.qrz.com/callsign/qsl=?

What sequence of keys, etc. does one need to perform that requires DX4WIN to
use this field?

This is the way I do it also. I use a new Group number for each contest
I import from CT. If you leave the SAME CALL window open all the time
(I do) the contest name you assigned to that Group number will show in
that (SAME CALL) window. So if I hear ZL1BYZ calling CQ and I type his
call into my DX4WIN Callsign window all previous contacts with ZL1BYZ
will be shown in the SAME CALL window showing when and in what group
(Contest) I worked him.
73

Scott,

A better solution to putting the contest name in the notes is to import
the contest log into it's own group, the group name will show up in your
log window and you can use the same group year after year if you want to
look at one year just make a selection using a date filter.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import question

2006-06-14 Thread John Shaw
Very good point Alan, and I have the SAME CALL window open all the time
and use that very piece of information, often I will comment to a
station when having a QSO that it is good to get there name as our other
QSO's are all contest ones.

Just to re iterate one point though, use the same group each year for
the same contest. Saves using all those groups and you can still tell
at a glance which year it was by the date. If you really need to home
in on one year just make a selection with a date filter.

This sort of thing is what attracted me to DX4WIN in the first place,
there is hardly a task that cant be achieved with a little thought and
observation.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import question

2006-06-14 Thread Scott Neader KA9FOX
Yep, guys, I'm convinced -- this will work great! I did not realize I
could get the group NAME to appear in the log, or in the same call
window. This will work nicely!!!

Having the CONTEST_ID import directly into the Notes For This QSO would
still be nice, but Group Numbers Names will get it done for me. Thanks
all !!!
