[Dx4win] Flying Horse Thumb Drive

2013-07-15 Thread Art - W6KY
I received a 2013 Summer Flying Horse Callbook today on a
USB Thumb Drive. It is formatted the same as the CD type
and works great with DX4WIN.
It is so much better than the CD version in that a F3 inquiry is
instantaneous. No waiting for the idle CD to spin up and seek.
Also freed up my CD/DVD drive.

It is from Radio Amateur Callbook with the proper logo...

I got mine from Duane Heise, AA6EE
aa...@cox.net
He is an official ARRL dealer.

I sure they are also available at www.callbook.biz
The home of the Callbook

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and Flex 6500 not connecting

2013-07-15 Thread Dennis Petrich
Thanks Bob, I hope Paul weighs in on this problem to facilitate a solution
soon

Thanks you for looking as deep as you have.

Again, I think this is partially due to the way DX4Win works and partially
due to the AutoInformation (AI) command not yet being implemented in CAT.
Even though there is a polling rate that can be set in the DX4Win
Preferences (defaulted to 5000ms), I don't see it "polling" CAT with
commands at any rate. If I switch to DX Lab Commander or N1MM and click
tune RX A or RX B, both programs read the new frequency on either RX (they
both request radio status at rates selected in their configuration
programs).

When DX4Win asks for the status of AI, I correctly return AI0; (not
available), but that doesn't seem to modify DX4Wins's behavior. I will be
incorporating the AI command but it may be a while before it is completed.

No, that sort of change has to come from DX4Win. I'm wondering if there is
something in the radio configuration file that can be changed. It just
doesn't sound reasonable to me that any software would require the second
receiver (actually VFO since this is all legacy terminology) to be there
before it could start. My first experience with DX4Win was this morning
when I downloaded the trial program so I could troubleshoot this problem, I
am far from being a DX4Win expert.

There is really no such thing as VFO B in SmartSDR, I have to make that
transformation inside of CAT. The only legitimate CAT answers to the FB
command being sent from DX4Win are FB[+ an 11 digit frequency]+; or ?; if
the second receiver is not there.

Well, thank you Bob,

It’s working if I bring up a second slice with VFOB as you discovered I
wonder if there is someway for ‘SmartSDR’ to provide a place holder number
for VFOB when it’s not open or ask DX4WIN people to change it to look for
VFOA instead of VFOB??

Again, thank you Bob and Klaus!!

Dennis,

Sorry it took so long for me to get a chance to look at your problem but I
think I've found the answer.

DX4Win immediately looks for the frequency of VFO B (the FB command) it will
try six time, and if it doesn't get an answer, it times out). I'm not sure
exactly why DX4Win is dependent on VFO B being there but it is. I don't
know if this has something to do with how the radio profile (in DX4Win) is
generated, I opened up the DX4Win FlexRadio.rig file but his acronyms don't
mean anything to me so I can't decipher what is supposed to happen.

I created a second receiver on the 6000 (before starting DX4Win) and
everything ran smoothly. I can read both receiver frequencies and set split
mode from the DX4Win Radio Frequency Control panel. The only CAT command
that the Flex6000 is not responding to is RC (reset the RIT frequency) which
is not available currently in the radio. CAT responds with the correct
error message and DX4Win seems to accept it.

So, I guess the fix is to always have a second receiver running, either in
the same panadapter or another one.

Hello Klaus,

Thank you for the screen shots, I connected as shown but DX4WIN would not
connect to the 6500 and would time out I have no port problems, DX4WIN
worked for years with the Flex 5000A and DDUtil... I’m stumped as to what’s
going on and need someone from Flex and/or DX4WIN to take a quick look at
why DX4WIN is not talking the lingo required for the 6500’s CAT server
interface

Again, thank you Klaus!

Would someone from Flex and/or DX4WIN look to see what the problem is?

Thank you,

Hi Dennis,

soon I will uninstall this version of CAT - hence here are the relevant
settings
I have tried.

Have a nice Sunday,
