Re: [Dx4win] I quit

2017-10-08 Thread Rich C
Hi Vic,

Like you I have been a user from close to day #1. Like you I am a loyal
user. Like you I have recommended the program to many as well.

You are free to think the new update is vaporware. Unlike you I don't
think Paul would make a statement that is a lie.

In my opinion the current version is pretty darn good as it stands. Yes I
know Paul has not been able to keep up with all the new modes and wants
that some users ask for. It can do 99% of what I need. I am not a
programmer but I have a feeling that there is lots more involved than just
adding to the existing program. My guess is that up to now Paul has been
doing band aids to an old programming software and the new DX4WIN update
had to be started from scratch with a new compiler or whatever is the
newer windows software needs to be written in.

So unlike you I will wait for the new version I have looked at other
logging software over the years and I stayed with DX4WIN. So you are free
to look around and maybe download the free ones out there and go thru the
learning curves and find out they are not perfect either. I am sure the
wait for the new Version will be well worth my wait.

I give Paul kudos to be thoroughly confident he is coming to us with a
stable product that will make those choose to wait happy because it is.

So that is my 2 cents worth..

Re: [Dx4win] I quit

2017-10-08 Thread Andreas Junge
We have waited for years for some update. Why is everybody so bent out of shape
all of a sudden? Can’t you wait a few weeks longer? Is this a life changing
event?

I am happy that there will be an update. It arrives when it arrives.

DX4WIN still is the best program to track my DXCC progress (I only need 5 more
to have them all BTW, not much to track :-)

2017-10-08 Thread Victor West

With all the talk of a new version, here is my two cents worth.!

I have been a DX4WIn user since version 1.07.  Met Paul at Dayton when
he was working with Steve. (Already was a user at that point).  I was
always one of the first to buy every major update, and recommended the
program to many, many other hams over the years who also became loyal users.

I am tired of promises with no specifics.   I am finally looking for
another program to switch to! Statements that a new update is coming,
and is now in Beta testing etc. is just more vapor-ware as far as I am
concerned. This testing could take weeks (already has) or years (
probably will if perfection is wanted)),  At this point I am considering
all of the major log programs. I would like to be able to enjoy using
the program while I am still  on the green side of the grass.

Re: [Dx4win] FW: USING FT8

2017-10-08 Thread PY2YP

Here it goes again:

===
The following procedure might interest to someone, so here it goes. I
use to log all my FT8 QSOs as JT65A because of my log software does not
have FT8 on it, besides I've never worked any QSO on this mode. In order
to upload the FT8 QSOs properly, logged as JT65A, I create a mapping on
the TQSL that will change the JT65A to FT8 and then upload it without
having to change the ADIF file. Mapping means changing the ADIF on the
fly, so no other action will be required.

To modify the TQSL open it and go to FILE | DISPLAY OR MODIFY
PREFERENCES, next open ADIF Modes tab and press Add... scroll down the
Resulting TQSL mode window and find out FT8, click once over it and type
JT65A into the ADIF Mode box now press OK and it's done.
This procedure may be needed again in case of either TQSL update or new
configuration file.

etc.

as that allows the change from "TOR" to "FT8" to be done
without having to change the length of the mode string (MODE:3 means
three

characters of MODE.)

Are any members of the reflector, still using DX4Win, now using FT8?

I have just started doing so and just uploaded some QSOs into DX4W, they all
appeared as SSB as the program does not recognise FT8. Well, it wouldn't
would it?

How can one change the mode to digi or whatever will be matched with the
other station when they upload to LoTW?
