Otherwise, you can ignore it. As I have posted on the DX4WIN reflector more than once recently, the Parks on the Air custom award went through a major upheaval with respect to reference numbers. For example, all of the USA park numbers beginning with K- now begin with US- In this release, I have tried to maintain the original reference number system. This is an intermediate step to converting all the park reference numbers to their new numbers. The next step will be to create a path for existing DX4WIN users to convert their old park numbers to the new park numbers. Why did I do it this way: 1. I had to do this so that users of DX4WIN 8.x and earlier could continue to track the award. That version of DX4WIN does not have any built-in way to convert custom award reference numbers. So the original set of reference numbers needs to be maintained. I *strongly* recommend that anyone who is tracking the Parks on the Air custom award upgrade to DX4WIN 9.x if you have not already. 2. The software I wrote to maintain the original park reference numbers will be turned into a set of rules that the Multiple QSO operation, "Check Custom Awards" in DX4WIN 9.x will use to convert the old park numbers to the new park numbers. Any DX4WIN 9.x user who tracks the Parks on the Air custom award should perform the following step after updating the Custom Award database: QSO | Multiple QSO operations | Check Custom Awards NOTE: You should use an F8 search and select "POTA" in the "Custom award" field in your logbook. Then perform the multiple QSO operation shown above. When it asks whether to use the current filter, answer Yes. This will allow DX4WIN to check only the POTA award and leave all other custom awards untouched. If DX4WIN reports any errors, please let me know the details. I may need to tweak the rules a little in the reference number conversion. [Dx4win] The Custom Awards database update will be delayed a bit
Hi Folks, The next Custom Award database update is going to be delayed. I started working on it Sunday evening (local time) but ran into a major problem with the Parks on the Air (POTA) award. Many of the reference numbers have changed. Instead of a DXCC prefix, they now begin with a 2-letter country code. For example: EA- => ES- VE- => CA- If you were to update your Custom Awards database with this change, most of your "Parks on the Air" custom award values would be blank (empty) because they would no longer match what is in the database. The POTA administrators did not change the reference numbers for the USA (K-) and some other countries, but many did change. I don't have a full list yet, and there is no automated way for me to do this without writing more software. I predict that any that have not changed *will* change sometime down the road, i.e. K-1 may/will turn into US-1. This will delay the release of the next Custom Awards database so that I can build a mapping table from the old reference numbers to the new reference numbers. Once the new database is available, you must run the Multiple QSO operation, "Check Custom Awards" to update all the reference numbers in your logbook. This is similar to the procedure you had to run when the USA reference numbers changed from 4 digits to 5 digits. Hi Folks, I'm using DX4WIN 9.0.9.1259. I want to see a listing of only DXCC entities that I have worked on 60m. I do not want to see DXCC entities on that band that I have NOT worked. I tried to do this with a "Needed Listing" by "Band" (Mixed and Modes unchecked), All modes with 60m selected as the only band. Still, the DXCC listing contained all the DXCC entities, many of which I have never worked on 60m. Hi Folks, If you are not tracking the Parks on the Air (POTA) Custom Award in DX4WIN, you can skip this message. The following mainly applies to users of DX4WIN 9.x. PLEASE SEE THE QUESTIONS AT THE END. I do not want to make a change that is going to hurt more people than it helps!! The POTA group started issuing 5-digit reference numbers for parks in the USA: K-1=Power City State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] This causes a problem in DX4WIN because Custom Award reference numbers are sorted strictly alphabetically. This means that these new park numbers will get sorted like the following: K-0999=Illini State Park [IL] K-1=Power City State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] K-10001=Jewell Meadows State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] K-10002=Ladd Marsh State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] K-10003=Phillip W. Schneider State Fish and Wildlife Area [OR] K-10004=Bob Pyle Marsh Wildlife Management Area [IA] ... K-10008=Klamath Hills BLM Recreation Management Area [OR] K-10009=Row River National Recreation Trail [OR] K-1000=Illinois Beach State Park [IL] K-10010=Fishermen's Bend BLM Recreation Management Area [OR] K-10011=OC Woods Line State Trail State Trail [OR] You can see that K-1 follows K-0999 (instead of K-) and K-1000 is listed between between K-10009 and K-10010. This may make it hard to find the correct park number when logging a QSO. My proposed fix for this is to increase the reference numbers for parks in (only) the USA from 4 to 5 digits. This means that: K-0001=Acadia National Park [ME] becomes: K-1=Acadia National Park [ME] If the cost of making this change is worse than the cost of having the sorting by reference number be messed up, I can re-think this. While fixing this, it exposed another problem that I did not anticipate. When the POTA program started, parks in the USA were given reference numbers beginning KFF-, such as this: KFF-0001=Acadia National Park [ME] At some point in the program, they changed all the reference numbers to use K- instead: K-0001=Acadia National Park [ME] I thought I had changed the Custom Awards database for this, but I did not. I would like to make this change now. However, each user will need to run a Multiple QSO operation, Check Custom Awards, to map the old KFF- reference numbers to the new K- reference numbers. If you do this correctly, it won't affect any other Custom Awards that you may track in DX4WIN. I will send more details when I release the new Custom Awards database. For users of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier: 1. I can not change the reference numbers from KFF- to K- for users of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier because there is no multiple QSO operation to do to that. 2. For the 5-digit parks in the USA, instead of KFF-1, they will look like KF-1. That is because DX4WIN only supports up to 8 characters for a custom award reference number, and KFF-1 would be 9 characters, or one too many. This limitation was fixed in DX4WIN 9.x. So for people who track the Parks on the Air custom award in DX4WIN 9.x, which of the following do you prefer? Proposal #1 - leave the 4-digit reference numbers for USA as they are today. Add the new 5-digit reference numbers, knowing that sorting by reference number will not be quite right. Proposal #2 - convert all existing 4-digit reference numbers for USA parks to 5-digits. Are you sure you are running DX4WIN on the new computer from the location you think you are running from? Maybe you have two installations and you're running the wrong one? You should also have copied your configuration file from the old installation to the new one: SAVE\config.dat Finally, it may be a file permission problem. This program (`adifmt`) started as a solution for converting my logs
from paper to Google Sheets to CSV to ADIF for import into the POTA
website. It supports conversion to and from ADI, ADX, CSV, and JSON[1].
It supports validating ADIF data types and enum values, and fixing
some data formats to comply (e.g. "2023-02-28" to "20230228" and decimal
GPS coordinates to the ADIF Location type). It also supports
programmatic edits like changing, adding, or removing fields and
inferring one field from others like BAND from FREQ and GRIDSQUARE from
LAT/LON.
It's designed to be easy to use from shell scripts or other automation
scenarios. It could also be useful as a supplementary utility to other
logging programs. It's still "version zero" so interfaces are subject
to change; if anyone uses adifmt for automation I would love to hear
about your use case and whether the current interface works for you.
I've attempted to adhere to the ADIF spec while still preserving user
input. (For example, it won't reject "ME MAYBE" since it's a
valid string. It will also pass through fields which aren't part of the
ADIF spec.) It's possible that I've misinterpreted something in the
spec, or have introduced bugs. If your software produces any log files
that adifmt can't handle correctly or vice versa, please open a GitHub
issue.
[1] Lacking an official ADIF JSON spec, I went with something simple
that would be easy to handle with `jq` etc.
