Re: [Dx4win] wish list!

2020-08-10 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Courtney,

Set all the windows the way you want them. Then do:
File > Preferences > File > Write configuration file.
Save Changes and Exit.
The windows, including the QSO entry window, will come up that same way now.

Subject: [Dx4win] wish list!

Afternoon All! here is a wish list for DX4WIN that I would like to see
implemented in a new version if possible! I am using version 9.0.9.1259
and have close to 150K contacts stored in it. I absolutely love this
program and support it and Paul for sure. Here are 3 improvements that
would be easy and simply changes that could be made user selectable.

1: I would like the program Log Entry window to open with a new entry
instead of last entry. I have to remember to hit F9 to clear this last
entry every time I start the program (every morning) and me getting old
and forget it and causes problems. This could be a user selectable in
Preferences.

2: I would prefer that under Help Menu that the Update window open with
everything UN-selected instead of ALL selected. I normally only update
the Country Files so have to manually un-check everything. This could be
user selectable too.

3: I would like for the Log Entry window to open in the smallest window
possible. F5 selects between multiple sizes and it opens in the mid-size
and I have to re-size it every day. I would like it to stay in the size
I select as it covers up my CW window.

These are not big issues for sure and are just flea bites in my side and
I am sure that others have bigger or more important changes they would
like to see, but these three are the ones that bug me the most! I hope
everyone staying safe and healthy... me very bored with stay at home but
getting some serious radio time in. Thanks for listening and 73's Cort K4WI

Hello Joe,

You need to change the Prefix (next field after the callsign) from KL or KH
to K. Then you can change the state.

Re: [Dx4win] F2 Key Help

Thanks Paul,

I should have specified, I'm EY8MM's new QSL manager and have a stack of 34
cards here. Yes, this is for confirming incoming cards, but I also want to
have the QSL date and method in the log. I thought it would be quicker to
hand write the cards, so decided to try it that way.

Hi Mike

I trust you request those cards, so your settings for the F2 key are
actually for confirming incoming cards, not usefiull for requesting cards.
Just manually modify those EY8MM QSOs. What is default value for label ?
You can change it manually for those QSOs, and put or leave a N, input
the date and change method to direct.
That's all, folk !

[Dx4win] F2 Key Help

2020-07-08 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
OK, now I'm the one who needs help!

Doing a batch of direct QSLs for EY8MM, hand writing them so I don't need to
print labels. My settings:
File > Preferences > F2 Key
Mark QSO as confirmed
Set QSL Date to Today
QSL Method = Direct
QSL selection after F2 key = Specify New QSO Filter
NOTE - Mark for printing a label and mark for sequenced printing are NOT
checked.
File > Preferences > File > Write Configuration File.
Save changes and Exit. Restart Program.

The QSO gets marked as being confirmed, but the QSL method is still BURO and
the QSL date is not set.

Any ideas, besides printing a page of faux labels that I don't need???

Thanks.

Subject: [Dx4win] Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing (6/23
testversion)

I uploaded a new version of the "Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award
Listing" program:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/VUCC_v3.1_20200623.exe
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ - documentation etc. (not updated)

You can find my original message here:

http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/dx4win/2020-June/025751.html

This is what the default output now looks like:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ad1c_2020-06-20.pdf

The program looks slightly different. Here are the main changes:

* Removed Output selection. The .csv file from the DX4WIN Listing can
now be anywhere, but you'll still have to navigate to find it

* Fixed a bug if the listing uses Frequency instead of Band. This
would happen if the "Show band in MHz" box is checked on the QSO tab
of your DX4WIN preferences. As a side-effect of this, I had to remove
support for the 4cm (70MHz) band. If you need this, let me know.

* Added two new check boxes:

  1. Needed/worked (default = checked). When checked, the output
will have darker NEEDED grids and lighter CONFIRMED/CHECKED grids.
This will emphasize the grids you need to work, instead of the ones
you have already confirmed.

  2. C=S=* (default = checked). When checked, grids that are
confirmed will be the same color as grids that are checked. In other
words, there are only three different colors: unworked, worked and
confirmed

I also found a way to move the individual fields (10x10) to be
adjacent to each other, without gaps.

I renamed the "Field" field to be "LL Field", meaning Lower-left
Field. This is how you specify what geographical area you want the
output to cover. It can be a 2-letter field or up to a 6-digit grid,
but only the first two letters of the field matter.

I fixed a couple of other things that would cause the program to crash.

Please give it a try and let me know what you think. One thing I
would like to do, but is a bit of work, is to save the check box and
print format settings. So the next time you run the program, you will
get the same settings as the last time. I could potentially save the
LL Field as well.

Re: [Dx4win] Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing

2020-06-22 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Very nice Jim, thank you!!

May I make a (radical) suggestion about color? For quick reference
purposes, Confirmed and Checked are pretty much the same. Not Worked, and
Worked but not Confirmed are important. How about this for colors:

Confirmed = Light Gray
Worked = Red or Med Gray
Not Worked = Black

This way, the needed grids stand out more. Thanks for ALL the great support
you provide the DX community. Next time you're in MN the food & beers are
on me.

Hi Folks,

I started to work on this utility again after several years. This can
be used anywhere in the world, not just USA. You can see an example
of the current output here:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ad1c_2020-06-18.pdf

The coloring is slightly different than before:

- Black means Checked (credit given by ARRL)
- Green means Confirmed (but not yet submitted)
- Red means worked but *not* confirmed

You may also notice a blue outline. I just added this option
yesterday. It is for the Fred Fish Memorial Award from ARRL (FFMA):

https://www.arrl.org/ffma

I like to keep a printed copy near my operating position. For me, it
works better than using F8 all the time. There is one problem that I
need help with. As you can imagine, color works *great* if you have a
color printer, but what happens if you only have a monochrome
(black/white) printer? I printed the color result on a monochrome
printer we also have in the house. The problem was that both the red
(not confirmed) and green (confirmed) squares appear to be the same
color (sort of a light black or dark gray).

My proposal is for users who need to print the map on a monochrome
printer, that I will use RED only for unconfirmed grids. Grids that
are either confirmed or checked will show up in the same black color.
This is to make it easier to identify grids you may need to re-work.
Presumably, grids that are already confirmed are of "no interest".

If you have any opinions, let me know. I've put up a beta version of
the current release. You can download it from here:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/VUCC_v3.1_20200620.exe
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ - documentation etc.

You may need to download/install this Microsoft library as well (the x86
link).

This isn't a perfect solution, but it appears to have worked for me this

Subject: [Dx4win] QSO time issues when importing

To Paul and the group,

I continue to have problems with dupes being created when importing digital
QSOs from WSJT-X. It appears that DX4WIN uses the QSO Begin time when all
other logging programs, including N1MM, use the QSO End time. The Log4OM2
website states that in the UK amateur regulations require that the QSO end
time be used.

Here is how dupes are created:

After making over 600 Qs in the ARRL VHF test over the weekend, I imported
all 600 from N1MM into DX4WIN (using Jim's ADIF to DX4WIN Conversion app).
All 600 showed up in DX4WIN and I then did an upload to LOTW. This morning
I made a few more FT8 QSOs and imported the WSJT-X ADIF file directly into
DX4WIN (which I have done hundreds of times). Much to my dismay, a bunch of
dupes were created. I made about 120 digital QSOs in the VHF contest.
During the contest, when a digital contact is made, WSJT-X broadcasts the
QSO to N1MM and then save the contact in its own ADIF file. When the QSO is
imported into N1MM, it used the QSO End time for each QSO's time.

When I imported the WSJT-X ADIF file this morning, DX4WIN used the QSO Begin
time when saving each QSO. By the way, I have always kept all of my
previous digital QSOs in WSJT-X. I never delete them. So the QSOs that I
made yesterday were imported into DX4WIN today, but most were ignored
because they all showed the same QSO time. The QSO Begin and End times will
often be in sync when a digital mode is completed quickly without any
repeats. But we all know that it can sometimes take several minutes for a
QSO to complete. There have been times when I finally get a RR73 from the
other station that are 10 to 15 minutes after the original start time. I
know that a few times yesterday due to QSB or QRM conditions on 6 meters.

Two questions for the group:

1. Would Paul be willing to change the import map for ADIF files so
that DX4WIN uses the QSO End time - which is the apparent standard?
2. If Paul is not willing to do that, is there a way for the user to
change the import mapping - so that I can do that myself?

I might add that these dupes due to time differences become an ongoing issue
with LOTW. Now that I uploaded all of the 600 QSOs that I imported from
N1MM (using the QSO end time), I will now have an issue with any QSOs that
get imported into DX4WIN directly from WSJT-X - if the beginning and end
time would vary significantly (more than a minute). So this will cause
duplicate QSOs to be uploaded to LOTW - which I try to avoid.

The other option is the manually edit the WSJT-X ADIF file to make the
beginning and end times the same so that the next time that I import that
file, it will not create duplicates. This also requires that I delete the
duplicates that were already created in DX4WIN due to the time discrepancy.

The best solution would be the change the import mapping in DX4WIN so that
it uses the QSO End time. Can anyone help me with that?

In the meantime, I have to spend this afternoon finding all the dupes that
were created this morning!

Thank you.

73,

Dave, N4QS

Re: [Dx4win] SHOULD APPEAR THE STATES OF USA

2020-06-12 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Yes, it WOULD be nice. BUT - we can operate from anywhere in the US
without signing /M or /P, so there really is no way to tell where a US
station is unless he tells you during the QSO. Many operators do not update
their info with the FCC or QRZ, so you have to ask the other station for his
location.

Re: [Dx4win] SHOULD APPEAR THE STATES OF USA

2020-06-12 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Manuel,

No, we cannot have dx4win automatically fill in the state for US stations.
There is no way to tell what state a station is in by his callsign.

Good night and good health to all. Is it possible to make the State of USA
appear automatically when we write the callsign?
I would be very happy if that were possible, a hug and thanks for putting

Hello Phil,

We may need Paul or Jim AD1C for this one. Maybe you cannot merge logs of
different versions, I don't know. Let's see if someone else comes up with a
better answer.

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for the prompt response, which is much appreciated.
I should probably have mentioned that I tried to use the import/export tool
as you suggest, without success:
I'm only given the ability to merge DX4Win logs (perhaps this functionality
is limited in the demo version?), not to import the files. I tried merging
the files using all possible versions and keep getting the same
inconsistencies. (I think there might be an issue with the mode of operation
as well, as I certainly don't recall doing that much RTTY...).

Very grateful for any additional thoughts from you and the broader
community!

All the best,
Phil

Hi all,

I have identified in my computer backup log files from 20 years ago(!) when,
being a teenager with a modest station, I often operated from friends’ QTHs.
Some of these logs have been created with DX4Win.

I have tried to open the logs in .dxl format with the current demo version
of DX4Win, but I’m under the strong impression that the data has either been
corrupted or that there's a version conflict. Indeed, those logs have a lot
of activity recorded on 12m, which is not a band that I recall using. (As a
matter of fact, I can’t even remember if my novice licence entitled me to
operate on 12m then). I have, however, a vivid recollection of operating
often on 10m, which is most likely where I made those QSOs.  Also, I am
tempted to rule out human error at the time of logging as there are three
files presenting the same issue.  Has any of you faced a similar issue in
the past and, if so, how have you resolved it?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Re: [Dx4win] Two Callsigns and LOTW

2020-05-07 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Lanny,

Do a selection by date:
Filter > Selection
In the drop down window at the top, scroll down to find "Replace this name"
and replace it with N0AJZ.
Check the box for Date Filter
Enter the dates for N0AJZ
Click Update
Click Add
Click OK

Your log should now be open with just N0AJZ QSOs and at the top of the QSO
window you should see N0JZ sorted by date selection N0AJZ. Do your LoTW
export and answer YES when it asks "filter active, use it for export?"

That should do it. GL

(remember to go back to "all QSOs" when you're finished)

Look VERY closelyten digit grid square, operator’s mother’s maiden name...

If any part of the data doesn’t match exactly, the QSO will get flagged and put

Hello.
A doubt.
I have just been confirmed via LoTW a QSO of the year 1999, and curiously
it is one of the zones that I was missing in 10 meters, just zone 18.

I import the LoTW file into the DX4WIN, and indeed, when going to that QSO,
the Y of confirmed appears in the LoTW box.

Later I ask for a report from WAZ, Needed Listing, and I choose the 10
meter band, and the report shows me the zone 18 W.

What am I doing wrong?

Regards.

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW import

2020-04-03 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Luc,

Those are the correct steps. LoTW keeps track of when you made your last
download and when new QSLs arrive. You do not need to put a date in when
you download your reports.

Subject: [Dx4win] LoTW import

Hi, I have a doubt.
I have imported all my log to DX4WIN from the ARRL's Logbook on the World
page.
1) Your QSO
2) Download report (I put the date where my radio activity started)
3) Your Call sign (any)
4) Download report (save it as Lotwreport.adi)
5) Then I go to DX4WIN in the LoTW menu, Import from LoTW and import the
file Lotwreport.adi into DX4WIN.

I think those are the correct steps.

My question is: Every time I import that file, should I do it completely?
Imagine that a QSO arrives confirming an entity that I made in 1998, should
I import from before that date?

Greetings to all and wishing this pandemic to pass as soon as possible.

Leave the QSO’s as confirmed, but change the DXCC status to “I” for invalid.
This is what I’ve done for unapproved operations or Q’s where my call was

You also need to change it at the bottom of the QSO window, under DXCC, for
Mixed, Band, and Mode. Use the F5 key to open the QSO window all the way to
see these boxes.

Hi,
I sent my QSL to the ARRL to request my DXCC endorsement.
I only have 3 entities left to work and confirm:
KH8 / S Swains Is.
P5 DPR of Korea
YA Afghanistan

The two QSLs I sent from Afghanistan EA4FAS / YA and YA / IW0HPJ were
rejected for the DXCC because the operators did not have the relevant
documentation.
My question is this:
With the F8 filter, I search the two stations in Afghanistan and change the
"Y" to "N" in Cnfm, I save the file, and when I ask for a report of the
entities I need, it indicates that YA, is confirmed despite having put "N"
in Cnfm.
I could solve it, putting in the field rstR, instead of 5/9 a "0".
I think this is not the right way and is due to a program error, maybe Paul
can tell me how I should do it.
Greetings to all.

Hi.
Maybe it can be done, but I don't see how to change it.
For those who are completing the diploma of the municipalities of Spain,
which are currently 8,116, when trying to add a municipality to a selected
callsign, in Custom Award I choose "Diploma Municipalities of Spain" and
just below, in Custom Award Value, it comes out the list of all
municipalities, but sorted by alphabetical name. Normally, the DME
numerical reference appears on the cards.
Is there any possibility that the search can be done by numerical reference
instead of the name of the municipality?
Because when a QSL appears DME 36021, and not the name of the Municipality,
looking for it between 8116 3 entries becomes very laborious.
Jim, is there any possibility of being able to select the search? either by
the name of the municipality or by the numerical reference?
Greetings.

Re: [Dx4win] Fwd: DX4WIN V9 license for AK1MD

2020-01-03 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Alex,

Best way to install dx4win is to follow Paul's instructions :-) Do NOT
install it in the Program Files or Program Files(x86) directories. Best to
use either the root directory (c:\) or a special directory for radio
programs.

Try the FTDX3000; they probably look about the same to logging programs.

DXspots.com is already in the database:
AE5E>Thief River Falls-MN,dxspots.com:7300
Just highlight it and click OK.
Do any of the DX clusters work? Try one of the other clusters already
installed in the program to make sure your settings are correct. There may
be a problem with AE5E.

I downloaded new LOTW confirmations today (81 of them), saved to an .adi
file, then used that file to confirm QSO's in my log. After importing these
confirmations I noticed that the state and county was updated but not the
LOTW confirmed flag, rather the eQSL flag was changed to Y. I've never
uploaded to eQSL and don't use that method to QSL. I filtered the Q's that
had an eQSL flag of Y and manually changed to LOTW flag to Y. I'm just
wondering why this happened. Any thoughts? I'm okay with "operator error"
but I'd like to know what I did wrong so I never do it again!

Subject: [Dx4win] Mailing list submission

Hello This is my first time on here and as a new user of dx4win I am still
learning.

Not sure if this is the correct way to ask a question but here goes.

I would like to know a little more detail on the question below from Arthur
Caswell. I cannot find the pop up menu to click on for automatic updates. I
am also a subscriber to QRZ and would like the automatic update facility.

Which data window is it that should be visible and then be able to right
click on?

Mike G4SND

Skip,

With the external data window visible: Right mouse click and select
automatic update from the popup menu.

Re: [Dx4win] lotw again!

2020-01-01 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Cort,

DX4WIN remembers what you have uploaded before, so in the QSO window just do
LoTW > Export to LoTW and it will select the right QSOs.

If, for some reason, that won't work in your case, you can do a filter:
F8 (Filter) > 01-01-2018 (Under File > Preferences > QSO, you need to
select "Greater Equal" under QSO Date for searching)
File > Import/Export > ADIF (first one on the list) > Export
When the program asks "Use filter for export?" select yes.

I recall seeing info about a clickable box in files>preferences>screen

have been for older versions, I see no such box with ver 9. Is there
any such setting in ver 9, as I have lost access to the packet window
after upgrading from win 7 to 10 with dual monitors etc. I have my spots

it, as when I bring up Dx4Win I automatically log in to a cluster and
start getting spots, but I would like to find the packet window :)

Sometime ago, I entered Z6 prefix into the Country Database. The problem I
am having is when doing a DXCC country Listing, the Z6 prefix does not come

wrong.

The second problem encountered is when trying to correct the problem using

Re: [Dx4win] Fwd: Filtering with time as well as date - correction

DX4WIN remembers what QSOs you have uploaded to LoTW. Whenever you do a
LoTW upload, just do Clublog at the same time with the same ADIF file. We

Correction to first line sorry for mistake..

I would like to be able to filter logbook records based on **time** as
well as just date.  When I try I get odd results.

Yesterday I made 18 QSOs.  After the first 16,  I did an upload to
Clublog thinking that was it for the day.  I then made 2 more QSOs.  ( I
know I can upload all of them and Clublog would ignore the duplicates -
but I thought I would try and be more efficient and try and upload just
the two new ones)

My log looks like this

9 QSOs before 16:00

Then QSOs at 16:18  16:28  16:36  16:39  16:40  16:42  16: 43 (Clublog
upload)  16:49  21:26  All the 16:00 QSOs were on 17m the 21:26 one was
on 40m.

To try and just select the last two new QSOs I did Filter / Search and
set date as 01/12/2019  and time as 16:45 and end date as 01/12/2019.
(no end time option)

The filter search results returned 5 records, the QSOs from 16:39 to
16:49 but not the one at 21:26.   Also why were just some of the QSOs
before 16:45 included?

Have I missed something, perhaps an additional setting somewhere?    Is
what I am trying to do supposed to be possible? If so how?

Re: [Dx4win] Awards update

Hello Paul,

Yes, there are hundreds of custom awards. Try updating everything with Help
>Check for Updates and see if you get more awards.

If you are doing a report, ALL of the awards should be visible. If you are
entering award info for a QSO, remember that only those awards applicable
will be visible. For WAIP, you need to have an Italian QSO up in the QSO
window. I just tried it and WAIP is indeed included. (I have the award :-)

Re: [Dx4win] Awards update

2019-11-22 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Paul,

Are you really trying to update the database (did Italy add a new Province?)
or are you trying to input the Province name for a new or existing QSO?

To input the Province for a new QSO, in the QSO window for that contact,
simply click on the Custom Award window, select WAIP, click on the Custom
Award Value window and click on the Province name. Hit F10 to update the
QSO info. Note that only those awards for which that QSO might count will
be shown (WAIP will not appear for a DL QSO; DLD will not appear for an I
QSO).

If you really want to update the database, find:
dx4w903\save\custawds.txt
search () for [WAIP]
Enter the new Province info using the same syntax as the existing Provinces.

Importing QSOs from wsjtx_log.adi into DX4WIN log. Specify to ignore
dupes.
In 9.0.4 this worked nicely, only importing new QSOs.
Now with 9.0.5 it created approximately 140 duplicate QSOs out of
1000+ QSOs in the wsjtx log.
These added Qs differ by a minute.

The import preferences are the same for both versions of DX4WIN 60 & 1800.

Any ideas?

Re: [Dx4win] dx4win log to WSJT-X

2019-06-30 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bob,

Try it and see. If your wsjt log is already gone, you have nothing to lose.
Filter for FT8 QSOs. Do a Count Filter to see if you have about the
right number of QSOs. File > Import/Export > ADIF (first one on the list) >
Export. Call it wsjtx_log.adi and put it in the
(username)\AppData\Local\WSJT-X directory. Fire up WSJT-X and see if
everything looks right. I presume you have already tried the "normal" file
recover things; looking in the recycle bin and things like that? GL.

Will that work? and if not are there any suggestions ?

If you expand the QSO window all the way (F5), you will see "I" in all the

can do this by selecting the boxes individually.

I encountered a situation, in last weekend FLQP, and will probably
encounter it again, this weekend in 7QPINNE QSO parties.
Using N1MM+, which logs, creates ADIF, and Cabrillo fine. My situation
arose when importing the ADIF file into DX4WIN, an error message indicating
the second contact, with a county line station, was a duplicate, and the
import stopped. N1MM+ indicates a 2-3 second interval, in the ADIF file. My
work around was to manually edit the ADIF file, changing the time of the
second contact by one (1) minute. I also encountered a similar error, when
uploading to eQSL. What is the required time difference between stations
with same call sign, to not be considered a duplicate contact?
Thanks

Re: [Dx4win] Not Recognizing LOTW Confirmation

2019-04-26 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bud,

Since there are only 8 of them, it's probably easiest to do them manually by
changing the flags at the bottom of the QSO window. For future reference,
when you want to do a submission, do it in DX4WIN:
Reports > DXCC (or whatever award); check Band Mode and/or Mixed, as
appropriate; Select LoTW.

This will change all of your new LoTW confirmations to "S" for submitted.

When ARRL processes the submission go back to the Reports menu:
Reports > Award Flags > Action > Submitted ->Checked
This will change all the "S" to "*" for Checked.
You may need to do this more than once if you are submitting for both the
Challenge and any single mode endorsements.

I completed an ARRL LOTW submittal.
It was completed by ARRL LOTW.
I updated DX4WIN for the 8 confirmations by downloading the ARRL LOTW
report into my created LOTW file folder.
Next I confirmed "LOTW Using ADIF file" using the downloaded ARRL LOTW
report in my LOTW folder.
Just as I have always done.

In Reports DXCC Listing those 8 LOTW confirmations show as "C" and not "*".
Putting a "Y" in the LOTW box for each of the individual contacts does
change the "C" to "*".

AD1C Compare shows these 8 contacts as mismatches.
The AD1C report has LOTW: [*] DX4WIN: [C].

I don't know how to change (C) to (*) in the DX4WIN report.

How do I do this?

Hi.
I have been using DX4WIN for many years.
I currently use version 8.05
I have about 50,000 QSOs registered and every 15 days approximately, I
export the last QSOs to LoTW using the filter (F8) and putting in Upload
Date of LoTW 01/01/1901.
So perfect, everything is fine, I have not had any problems so far.

My question is when it is in the opposite direction, or import my LoTW to
DX4WIN.

The first time I did it importing the entire file, from the LoTW page.

The following occasions:
Your QSO
Download Report
(Here I put a date, for example the last two months or the last year)
And I keep it.

The question is, if someone uploads their log, and there is a confirmation,
for example of a QSO from 5 years ago or 1o years ago, is it registered in
my last import? or should I always import the full file?

Greetings to all and good DX, s whenever the propagation accompanies us.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and WJST-X/FT8

2019-03-11 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Dave,

You need a port sharing program to allow both dx4win and wsjt-x to talk to
the K3. LP Pan works for the K3 (my radio). LP Bridge2 is supposed to work
with other radios. http://telepostinc.com/ There are probably other port
sharing programs that do the same thing.

I found it easiest to just log everything in wsjt-x and import those QSOs
into dx4win every couple of days. When you import, set dx4win to ignore
duplicate QSOs. Hope this works for you.

I am trying to run wjst-x on my Kenwood TS990S and of course log my

The 990 uses a USB connection which is seen as a virtual comport (COM3).
I run into conflicts when I try to run DX4WIN and WJST-X because I think
they are sharing or not sharing as the case may be the same COM port

I want to work a FT8 contact and then log it in DX4WIN. To do this at
the moment I make a QSO on WJST-X/FT8 , then close WJST-X and open
DX4WIN  ( or let DX4WIN /Radio interface time out and then log the
contact manually  A bit cumbersome in the digital age.
So what do you guys do?
1) Manually transfer the info to DX4WIN after the radio connection times
out, have to remember to enter all the band data, etc

2) The 990 has in addition to the USB virtual COM connection, a real COM
port I suspect but have not tried it that I could run both the USB/COM
and the REAl/COM dedicate one port to DX4WIN and dedicate the other
connection to WJST-X

3) WJST-X has a loging mode, so just log everything to WJST-X and then
import that log into DX4WIN later ?

4) Or Some possible permutation and combination I haven't
considered yet

Hello all...

A friend of me made some QSO with FR4FA in Juan de Nova island. He put
them in Dx4win, writing "FT/J" in the "Prefix" field. But, each time he
updates the country database, the "Prefix" field return to "FR".

Has somebody else found this behaviour?

Thanks for any answeer.

Maybe it's because you have already worked that station, and have 9L

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Grid vs LOTW

Hello Jim,

I think it happens sometimes when I log someone with a 4 digit grid and his

decided it was just easier to ignore them.

I assume the QSO did *not* have anything in the Grid field before you
imported the LoTW confirmations? Can you search your original log for
any QSOs logged with the grid square KM18ua? Similarly, are there any
QSO records in the LoTW report that have that grid square?

That is a real mystery! You may need to send your log to Paul
(pre-import, along with the LoTW report) so he can investigate how
this could happen.

I will be doing an import soon, and I'll keep an eye out for this problem.

Re: [Dx4win] WAS Oddity

Hello John,

This has come up a few times before. It usually happens when importing
contest logs that use ARRL sections or Canadian Provinces for multipliers.
Sorry I can't remember the details or the proper cure, but a search of the
reflector archives should yield the answer. There is a way to fix it. GL.

I was looking at my WAS stats for 2018 and the report indicated I had worked
FIFTY ONE states. Thinking that was rather impossible I did a bit of
research and found that an invalid entry had resulted in mystery state #51.
When looking at the WAS report, at the very bottom is the mystery state with
a state name of the letter "C" and the St column has "|l" as the state. It
indicates that it has been confirmed for MIX, PHO & DIG on 160, 80 and 30
but clicking on that "confirmation" results in "no matching QSO found"
response and the entry box is empty except the state "SL" with a red "S". No
matter how I sort the data I can't find this one. Can anybody suggest a way
to repair what apparently is a corrupt database for this single entry?

Re: [Dx4win] Cluster Display help

2018-10-30 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Rory,

Right click in the DX Spots window. Make sure you have DXCC Colors checked.
The header on the window should read: DX Spots [DXCC] sorted by Time

If this is correct, and you still don't have the colors you want, look in
your config.txt file and search for [PacketColors] It's about 3/4 of the
way down and should look something like this:

[PacketColors]
BG1=255
BG2=16777215
BG3=16777215
BG4=16777215
BG5=16777215
BG6=16777215
BG7=16777215
BG8=16777215
BG9=16777215
FG1=16777215
FG2=0
FG3=255
FG4=0
FG5=65280
FG6=0
FG7=0
FG8=0
FG9=12632256

(Note that mine is quite different from the default.  255=Red;
16777215=White, 0=Black, etc)

Note that any time you change ANY of your settings, you need to write a new
config file to save them:
File > Preferences > File > Write configuration file

Re: [Dx4win] K3S setup

Hello Will,

Can't help you with RTTY, but yes, you can do CW keying via the USB cable.

File > Preferences > Radio – uncheck DTR High and RTS high
File > Preferences > CW – set Interface to the same port you are using for
the radio and DTR Line to CW Keying.

That should do it. Of course, on the K3s config menu, you must have RS232

Re: [Dx4win] Help going from V805 to version 9

2018-06-11 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Rick,

The on line instructions are pretty good, just follow them and you should be
fine. Two important things to get you started:
1. The log file format in v9 is different so you must import your v8 log.
You cannot just copy it over.
2. More of your personal info and settings are stored in the configuration
file. You may import your old v8 config file into v9, but you will still
probably need to change some things around. Once you get everything set the
way you want it, write a new configuration file. Do this any time you
change any of your settings.

File > Preferences > File > Load (or Write) configuration file

If you have more specific questions once you are up and running, just ask
and someone on here will likely have the answer.

Having the extra length for CW is nice because it allows you to add things

It would be nice if Paul was able to implement a RST length limit and
character checking for modes that have shorter RST than what it is now
opened up to. Like back to a max length of 2 for ssb, 3 for cw. I'm kind
of re training my brain but the number of times I have entered both sent/rec
into one box after opening up the length for the new digital modes is a
pain. Might even help the search problem.

I don’t think it is possible to resize that window by dragging the sides

this changes all of the windows together.

My log with over 138,000 Qs is now showing 51 states when I run the WAS
summary or listing reports. The listing report shows a line after WY at the
very bottom of the report. There are a bunch of weird characters in the St
field and the State name field on this last row. Then there are Cs in the
boxes for Mix, Pho, CW, Dig, 80 and 40. When I try to click on one of the
Cs, there is an error message that says "No Matching QSO Found". Once I
click OK to remove the error message, I get a blank QSO window except for
the State field which is filled in with the letters SL. The S is red and
the L is black. If I try to hit F2 and do a search for SL in the State
field, I get nothing.

It is apparent that there is a corrupted QSO in the database, but the
question is how do I find it and delete it? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: [Dx4win] Country updates

2018-03-07 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bob,

The current version is 9.0.4.1176, but that should update as well when you
do "check for updates". I'm afraid this one is above my paygrade and either
Paul or Jim will have to help you out. One difference in mine:
Download : http://www.dx4win.com/files/updatesv9/update.INF
but I don't know if that is significant.

Hi Mike,

Here is what I do

I check for updates,
and I get a pop-up of a smaller inside box that
says "No Updates were installed".

I click the "OK" that is inside this box,
and box disappears.

I click "files" and I get nothing in the way of a reply

I click "status", and I get the below:

Start update : Non threaded update ---
OS version : Windows 7
IE version : 9.
Compiler : D7
Installed IDEs :

Just as a "whatever" check to see what I might see...

I try to log a QSO using "VERSION" as the callsign,
and the QSL Mgr date shown is 30-OCT-2017

When I try to log Z60A, no country shows up.
When I log 3D2EU, I get Fiji

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and FT-8

2018-03-06 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Byron,

DX4WIN does not (yet) fully integrate with WSJT-X or JT Alert. The two most
common methods for entering the new digi modes appear to be:

1. Log everything in WSJT-X and import the ADIF file into DX4WIN. This is
probably best if you make a lot of FT8 (or other JT mode) QSOs.

2. Log them manually in DX4WIN just like you do with CW or SSB, but select
Radio > Ignore Mode in real-time do you can select whichever mode you are
using. This is what I do and it works fine for smaller numbers of QSOs.

Hello Bill,

I presume you mean that you have the defaults set to print a QSL for every
QSO?

File > Preferences > QSO > QSL Card box checked

In this case, simply set Label to N for each duplicate QSO. You may find it
easier to have your default set to No and change it to Yes for the labels
you want to print.

Work first, worry later. Your ability to work and log Kosovo stations
is not impacted in any way by DX4WIN. Use paper/pencil if you have
to.

Shortly after there is an *official* announcement *from the ARRL*
regarding the DXCC status and start date, I will publish an updated
country file. But not before then.

I fail to understand why everyone gets so wound up when these kinds of
things happen. It's just a check box on a form, it's not a
life-and-death situation.

Hello Will,

What do you mean by "fix" them? Those fields populate when you make a DXCC
(or other award) submission through DX4WIN. If you already have several (or
several hundred) DXCC credits with the League but have not yet entered this
information into DX4WIN, you can use AD1C's utility program to help:

This will not be a trivial process, but by following Jim's instructions, you
can match your credits with the League to your dx4win records.

Yes, you can simply open your ver8 log with ver9 and it will do the

Once you get ver9 set up the way you want it, be sure to write a new config

Hi, I just purchased version 9 and looking forward to getting installed on
my Ham PC. In the past, when a new version was offered, I just copied my
DX4Win log file from the previous version into the new version. Is this
still acceptable or should I actually import the log file into ver. 9xxx?
I’ve been reading most of the reflector posts regarding this new version but
I may have missed where anyone posted that question.

I wasn’t going to upgrade because version 8 has been an awesome program for
my older radio equipment but there are 4 reasons why I decided purchased
9xxx.
1 – I wanted to do my part to ensure that Paul got financially rewarded for
his and others hard work!
2 – I also wanted to be able to import my FT8 log without having to play
games with the mode and…
3 – DX4Win ver. 8’s display on Windows 10 is very blah and the windows are
non- distinctive . Win10 just doesn’t seem to offer the various tinted
title bars with a bolder color for the selected window like XP and Win 7
did. Now that the DX4Win skin selections work properly, I can get a nice
distinction between windows…Lastly,
4 – With all the unbelievable support from Jim (AD1C) and several others,
who could ever ask for more from a logging program!

Thank you and 73,

Re: [Dx4win] Not flagging for submission

2018-01-28 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bernie,

New countries are not automatically marked for submission. You need to do
this yourself. In the QSO window:
Reports > DXCC > Report/Action > Submission

If you are using version 9, select LoTW as the Submission Medium.

Re: [Dx4win] Z6

2018-01-23 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Carol,

In the newest country file, Jim put the start date on 21 Jan 2018. If you
worked previous Z6 operations, they will not show as counting for credit.
If you work one of the current stations, it will show for credit. When the
official ruling comes out from Newington, if the start date is different, he
will release a new country file with the correct start date. If the new
start date is before the date of your QSOs, they will show as counting for
credit.

Re: [Dx4win] Confirmed to Checked

2018-01-19 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Bud,

Try this - AFTER saving a copy of your log someplace else.

Do a DXCC Submission for the bands and modes you track.
Reports > DXCC > Submission (both for QSL Card and LoTW)
Save.
Reports > DXCC > Award Flags > Action > Submitted -> Checked (last option)
Do this for DXCC mixed, mode, and band.

Run the AD1C program and see how it compares. This may not give you 100%
accuracy, but should be close. Hopefully you will only have a handful to
change manually.

After many years I messed up my DXCC listing.
Using AD1C Compare yesterday all was perfect.

Today Reports>Listing shows all my DXCC listings as C and not *.
AD1C Compare spits out 32 pages of mismatch.

LOTW has [*] and DX4WIN has [C].

How do I fix DX4WIN to convert [C] to [*]?

Re: [Dx4win] Issue with countries

2018-01-13 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Dave,

I don't know enough to say how this may have happened, but...

Your personal settings are in dx4win.cfg which is in the \Save directory.
Since you have already entered your data again, make a copy of this file and
save it someplace safe. Download and install the latest version of the
country file, dx4win.cty, preferably using AD1C's data updater program.
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html

If that doesn't work, Paul or Jim will have to help out. GL.

Greetings. . .

Upon launching DX4WIN (8.05) this morning, the program had trouble launching
and I lost all resident data in the program. . my various settings including
my address, location, radio settings, etc. All selectable settings and
parameters were erased. Fortunately, my log file was intact. After getting
things re-entered and things more or less back to normal I have an apparent
issues with countries worked. I have worked and confirmed all countries
but after getting DX4WIN back up an going I have three countries that show
as still needed: EZ, P5, and ZS8. However, I have confirmed QSOs for all
three countries. I have looked at the countries database and the respective
QSOs but all appears to be in order. Somehow seems the QSOs are not getting

Re: [Dx4win] International Grid Chase

2018-01-11 Thread Mike Cizek W0VTT
Hello Lee,

Guess you're right. You can add the HF bands to VUCC on the Awards window,
but no on the Station tab in Preferences and they don't appear in the
report. Oh well. Since the award ONLY counts LoTW confirmations, it's easy
enough to just track it there.

Hi Mike,

Doesn't look like you can (or I don't know how to) select any additional
bands for the VUCC award.  Highest (meter) band available seems to be 6
meters.

I have modified a simple program (originally written to track the FFMA) that
tracks what calls have credit for which Grids.  Currently, it only tracks
one call per grid.  I am in the process of updating it to keep track of
call, mode, date,#QSOs,LoTW Cnfm and LoTW Date for each band/mode
combination.  If anyone is interested in the program, drop me an email and
I'll see about getting you what I have.  Currently, it creates a .CSV file
that you can import to Excel and manipulate (sort) by what ever way you
like.  I am currently off the air (antennas clobbered from neighbors tree
icing up can falling on them) so I'm not able to do any LoTW updates
myself.  If you have a file that has been updated from LoTW this year and
would like to send it to me, that would make testing easier (I'm dummying up
data and that's slow).

I have gone to preferences, Ext. Date and entered http://www.qrz.com/db/
