Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?

2023-11-21 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
In my case I'm not asking for an improvement, I don't care, I'm asking for
a database update, satellites database is implemented into DX4WIN code. It
doesn't read the information from any file or website that is the
problem.. I don't know anything about programing code and I don't know
how difficult is to implement it but for me and for many others working
satellites it is very important to know which callsigns were worked on what
satellite.

Thanks

Re: [Dx4win] What is the future of DX4WIN?

2023-11-20 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Hi all

I was a very happy user of DX4WIN until I started on satellites 4 years
ago, the satellite database is not updated anymore and I had a good
response of the developer was that DX4WIN is not profitable so it lost his
interest maintaining it updated.

I moved to another logging program to handle my 10 qsos and all my
stats not a big as Guy's ones but not too bad for 28 years of ham radio.

I don't understand why automate a program is a sin. Do you work FT8??? Yes
the computer makes the QSO for you!!! Wow mind blowing!

I love DX4WIN but now it doesn't cover my needings... Automate is not one
of them but there are more.

What a pity!

Hi dick

Just try virtual serial port emulator, you can use the same comport with
more than one program.

It is easy to setup

Good suggestions!!!

I add one more, new satellites or read them from a file that could be
updated manually.

Thanks

Re: [Dx4win] SOTA References

2020-08-08 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Ok Jim thanks a lot, I don't need any urgent fix , I made it manually into
SoTA database. Btw I noticed a bug usually in awards like SoTA , the first
time you make an entry it is ok, no problem but the second time when you
select the reference of award the program become slow and a warning window
appears " DX4WIN doesn't respond, do you want to close it or wait until
available ( or something like that ) "if you wait it come to life again
after a minute or so.

Try to replicate it, if you can't I'll try to record a video.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN

2020-04-17 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Hello Paul

Thank you so much for clarifyinn the future of DX4WIN , despite all this
I'm a very happy user but I like improvements in your software to make it
better.

As you said automatically upload the log is not the best issue maybe just
download it could be a good idea.

Interfacing with other program such as JTDX or WTSJ could be the best
one

I appreciate your message and your efforts to make this program and to
handle the support along with Jim, he does an outstanding job.

Thanks again Paul

Hello Tim
I love DX4Win I've been user for many years, maybe not as much as you that
is because I'm younger

I'm not Electrical Engenieer and I never programmed anything but my
timetable... But I know one thing you could be the best Engenieer or
programmer in the world but you are not a great sales manager No one
are talking about bad issues of DX4Win, We Just want to know what the
future is... If you want to be stacked in the past is your choice, but let
younger users to ask for some improvements.. .It seem that everytime a user
ask for something some one of you become pissed of, I can't understand
why... I work to serve others and we alwaays say that the customers
opiniond make us improve and we need to hear them But not here?? Why?
because you are a happy user??? F..k the rest because it is perfect for
me .Is a good policy to stay alone.

The major improvement of DX4WIN was the last year and bring us only the FT8
mode and some other minor updates, we only ask for some improvements , two
or three because we love this program The attitude is no leave them
alone, the right attitude is fight for us.

One thing is true unhappy customers that complain look for an improvement
and they want to stay or come back, unhappy customers that don't complain
never comeback , you have lost them

Hav a nice day walking over your green grass in you pastures.

Re: [Dx4win] Developments

2020-04-10 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Hi Guy,

Maybe you are right, let's praynfor Paul and his health.

By the way I don't know what is the perspective of Paul about his own
program, maybe we, old timers can be comfortable with the actual features
but what about new comers Is Paul trying to get new blood into DX4WIN
or it'll be die with us?

Yes maybe computers are taking a main position in ham radio, but is what
technology has, isn't it??? Computers are in our lives, for everything, at
work, at daily routines with cell phones , tablets, smartwatches..
Computers try to make our lives easier , why don't we take advantage of
it??? Is it a sin???.

I'm not too old, almost 45 and I love technology and computing, I'm chef
and technology helps me a lot in my day life. Let's use the advantage not
fight against it Don't turn our backs to the future.

My two cents...

Re: [Dx4win] Developments

2020-04-09 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Rich, Paul and all.

I'm a mid happy user of DX4WIN, last time it was upgraded I was thinking
about to pay or not to pay, that was the question. Time is renewing
everything and the technology helps us a lot as hamradio operator and in
our daytime. Two or three improvements could be a good starting point to
bring more users to DX4WIN, it is the best log program I ever used, and I
can say that I've tested a lot of them. But it ineed some improvements,
a good connection between FT8 programs to allow recolection of qso in real
time to manage our DXCC needings, an utility to upload our qso's to eqsl or
Lotw in a fastest way, I don't know anything about programming that is
totally true but I have talked to very good friends of mine using DX4win as
their main logging program and they miss some care just a little of
affection to old time users, I've been using DX4win for 20 years..

Give us some new please!we need it

[Dx4win] New feature

2020-03-26 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Hi All

I use to work CW ando it is very uncomfortable not having auto focus, each
time I use the CW board pressing F1 for cqing, then I must use the mouse
arrow to click the main window and fill in the callsign , then I must to
click again on CW window to make another call or answer the 73 after
ragcheging or make fast qso's Is it possible to improve that feature???

Thanks a lot!

Re: [Dx4win] Version 9 of DX4WIN available

2017-10-20 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Im dissapointed too, in fact I'm looking for another logging programm until
a serious release comes.

That is a minor update for me except for FT8 , but after six years ( not
sure if more ) without any update and any information about one, I'm really
sad.

Thanks anyway for the job.

Re: [Dx4win] New upgrade feature involving Skimmer

Hello Radi

I use to run VE7CC CC Cluster program, connected to VE7CC's node and
activating normal spots with skimmers spot runs perfectly in DX4WIN. It is
easy to use and give to the user a lot of DX tools .

Try it and let me know!!

Re: [Dx4win] v8.05 :: other issues I have noticed, is my experience odd?

2014-01-29 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
Try to execute DX4WIN as administrator.

2014-01-29 Steve Jackson k...@yahoo.com

 1. I can't seem to enter a value in the 'CW cutoff frequency' for 160
meters, and have it stay. I type in, say, 1,840 ... and save the config,
but it reverts to 0 ... what am I doing wrong? I tried adding a leading
zero, did not work. I'd actually like the 160 default to be CW, not LSB,
as it seems to be now.

 2. When I choose the 5 MHz band on my radio [K3], it shows up as whatever
band I was previously on, in my band map, and also on the band select of
peripherals. I can select and show the band map for 60 meters if I do so
manually from within that window, but, the action automatically un-checks
 the 'follow radio' option.

 3. Even though I checked 'leave all windows in original position' some of
the windows re-size themselves when the program is brought up the next
time. They're all in the right place, just some of them are not the same
size. Generally, this happens to windows that can have scroll bars like
the world map and the DX spot window. It also happens to windows like the
packet window and the CW keyer tool.

Z6 has not been allocated by the ITU. Just log it with blank prefix,
if it becomes official, new country file will fix it.

Re: [Dx4win] QR-Code

2012-07-26 Thread Ricardo Navarrete
*Great Idea, now let's try with bureaus!!!*
*It could make their job easier!!!
*
2012/7/26 PY2YP py...@py2yp.com

On behalf of the author, PY1KN, a suggestion that should be considered
 to the wish list.

 73 de PY2YP - Cesar

Automated QSL reading -- a suggestion for software developers

 Marcelo Gomes -- PY1KN

ARRL's LOTW is a great thing, saving a lot of work for managers of large
dx-peditions or big contest stations, as well as active Dxers.

However, paper QSL cards are not going to disappear anytime soon.

Whenever I receive a bunch of QSL cards from the bureau, I have to
manually enter the other station callsign in my logging software and
look for matches in my logbook. Then I can take appropriate action,
marking the QSO as confirmed and marking a QSL for printing.

If you receive a large batch it can take many hours. There must be a
 better way.

Nowadays QR-codes have become ubiquitous, as its an easy way to create
 free format machine readable information.

So, if in addition to the traditional QSO data lines e can add a QR code
with the same information, the logging software could decode and search
for matches and take appropriate action.

The best solution would be to set a standard way to write the QSO data.
I´ve made a simple test, writing 5 QSOs with W1AW, using ; as field
separator according to the following pattern:

 Callsign

mmdd ;hh:mm; Mhz; band; mode; RS(T); QSL

A sample 5-QSO data in this format would look like

 W1AW

 20120130;00:10;21.025;15M;CW;599;PSE

 20120131;01:22;14.185;20M;SSB;59;PSE

 20120317;22:12;10.145;30M;RTTY;599;TKS

 20120401;10:00;;12M;PSK31;599;PSE

 20120718;23:18;7.023;40M;CW;599;PSE

Note that the 4^th QSO has no frequency info, just the band. In this
case the blank fiels results in 2 adjacent separators (;;)

The resulting QR-Code image is example would be:

This image could be added to my outgoing QSL to W1AW. A QSL printing
service like GlobalQSL could generate it automatically from the QSO data
uploaded and print it directly in the card.

The printing routines of the logging programs could include the option
to print it on a blank space of the card, or on a label,

A QR-image can hold up to 255 characters, if we consider typical line
with the formatting I used as holding 36 characters, there is space to
easily fit 8 QSOs in the image. I have tried to use a leaner format,
eliminating the frequency information, the hour-minute separator (:),
the M abbreviation in the band and use only P or T for QSL status, link
the example below, but the gain is not relevant, especially if we
consider that plain text information also has to appear in the card. In
practice, we don't see more than 7 QSO lines in a card.

 WIAW

 20120401;1000;160;RTTY;599;P

 (example of more condensed formatting)

The first software developer who jumps into this will set the standard.
Maybe we don't need the frequency information, maybe we can just write P
or T for the QSL PSE or TKS.

Time will tell if this idea evolves.

  Hi Folks,

I've put another test version of the DX4WIN Data Updater on my web
site. I think this version will update itself so you don't have to
move any files by hand. The program will still exit after downloading
the .EXE file, then you just restart the program and you should have
  the new version.

I have tested it on Windows XP *only*. I really need someone to test
it on Vista and/or Windows 7 (and any other Windows versions besides
XP). Please follow these instructions exactly. Read them all the way
  through once before doing anything:

  1. Make sure you are running the current DX4WIN Data Updater version
4.5. If you are running an *older* data updater (4.4 or earlier), you
can skip steps 2 and 3 below, but *ONLY* if you have not yet updated
  to 4.5.

  2. Download the September 12 release (version 4.4). To test the
change, we need an older version to update.

  http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/download/dx4wupd_20110912.zip

  3. Open that .ZIP file and extract only dx4wupd.exe to your
DX4W###\UPDATE directory, allowing it to over-write the existing file
  if one is already there.

  4. Download the new updater from:

  http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/download/dx4wupd_46b_20111207.zip

  5. Open that .ZIP file and extract only dx4wupd.exe to your DX4W###
directory, allowing it to over-write the existing file if one is
  already there.

  6. Check the file properties on the two files you downloaded and
extracted (right-click on the file, choose Properties):

 DX4W###\UPDATE\dx4wupd.exe should be dated 12 September 2011

 DX4W###\dx4wupd.exe should be dated 7 December 2011 with a
 latish-timestamp

  7. If all looks OK, run the updater program in your DX4W###
directory. You should see this banner:

 DX4WIN Data Updater - Version 4.6b
 Jim Reisert, AD1C - 07 December 2011 22:22:27

It should ask you if you want to stop and update dx4wupd.exe.
Answer Y(es). If it doesn't ask you, start back at step #1 above.

  8. Let the update complete. Ignore the message about copying the
file, and simply exit the updater.

  9. Start the updater again from the same place as #7 above. If the
update successfully updated itself, it will report the last released
  version at the top:

 DX4WIN Data Updater - Version 4.5
 Jim Reisert, AD1C - 07 December 2011 03:57:27

You should also *not* be prompted to update the updater program again.

  10. You may find a dx4wupd.~xe file in your DX4W### directory. This
is the old updater that was replaced. You can delete it if you wish,
but you'll get another one the next time you update. I'm pretty sure
the updater can't delete this file itself.

Please let me know how successful you were. I would like to release
this along with the IOTA update fix.

  Thanks 73 - Jim AD1C

p.s. I thought this couldn't be done (updating a .EXE file while it
was running), but I discovered a trick while browsing for an answer.

I'm hearing rumors (and that's all they are so far) that S. Sudan has
been added to the ARRL DXCC List as a new entity., effective 14 July
2011 I have not heard whether the ITU has assigned a prefix yet. If
you hear anything unusual on the air today, get on and work it. I'll
release the DX4WIN county file tonight (some time between 00-04z
 Friday 7/15 UTC).

*DO NOT* change the Prefix field in your QSO(s) to ST0. This is the
prefix of the OLD (deleted) DXCC entity. If you do this, even
upgrading the country file *won't* fix it, you'll have to manually
change them back. Just log the QSO and even if the prefix field is
empty, the new country file will make all the right things happen.

At least in Windows XP, you can have your computer set up so that it

need to set them to never in Device Manager in order to solve this.
 Why? Ask Bill.

  Ricardo,

Could it be that your computer or laptop goes into (deep) sleep mode ?

Normally the MKII installs virtual ports on your PC , you connect

Dx4win (or other program) for cat data to one of those ports if for some
  reason this port

Disappears after awhile dx4win or other software doesn´t detect the
 comport
  anymore

  And give the error.

You can check also if there is still data going from microham USB device
  router

To the radio (open the window and check the red/green led on screen)
