[Dx4win] FAQ for LoTW?

2003-10-12 Thread John Wilcox / NS1Z
Has anyone put together a FAQ for submitting Dx4Win logs to LoTW?

What I mean is a step by step for us ten (10) fingered digitally challenged?

1. Sort log by date like this: (or like X for multiple
calls)

2. Export log in ? format

etc.

There's not really much too it.

If you want to load logs from multiple calls, you'll need a log for each
call. (You'll need to register your main call with the ARRL, and then
you can use the certificate you get for that call, to apply for
additional certificates.)

Export each log into ADIF format, and DX4WIN's job is done!

See https://www.arrl.org/lotw/getstart for step by step instructions on
how to register and get your first certificate.

You'll only be able to go as far as step 2. Then you'll have to wait on
the ARRL to send you a postcard with a password (about a week). Once
you get that, you're good to go, and follow the rest of the procedures.
Make sure you've got the instructions handy the first time ... after
you figure it out, it's pretty simple.

Only one additional tricky bit I ran into. If you have used the same call
from more than one QTH, you need to tell TQSL about the two locations and
specify a date range for QSOs from each. I ran into this because I
previously used this call from VA, and now from WV. It's easy, though, and
involves only a local operation once you have your initial certificate.

Signing log records for more than one callsign is another issue, but my
understanding is that you can use your initial certificate to sign requests
for additional certificates for the other calls, and get an instant
response (because security has already been satisfied. Details of this are
in the LotW FAQ on arrl.org.
