Re: [Dx4win] qsl managers
1)Manager's data are in Country file. Jim, AD1C updates the qsl manager's data with the country file. If you had updated the country file you would have the right data (i can confirm that the last file has ea5gl as manager for p29no). The right practice is to use the update file by Jim. To be sure that Jim's file has the right data for me, i keep notes for any changes and send them to him. When i download the file i confirm that my changes are in and throw my paper. It is easy to do it and if everyone did that, we all have a better country file. 2) Almost same as above. You can update address info at filedatabasesmanager address. Maybe you need to be in expert mode to do this (filepreferencesuser level). Also Jim make an updated file. But maybe g3txf is too long. A note to Jim will correct it the next time. So this is why we all love Jim!! Finally he made a program to have all these updates automated. I usually use the QRZ.com information as it is maintained by operators and their managers, but it is a tedious task for QSLs, one at a time. 2) for XR0YG, DX4WIN says the manager is G3TXF. Re: [Dx4win] qsl managers
The simplest way to deal with addresses --whether built-in or added--- that spill over the label boundaries is to execute a dummy print run. Choose Print but make the destination Preview instead of Printer. That brings up the page(s) of labels to be printed. Note the labels that have a problem, bail out of the print label window, fix the labels for each noted QSO (see below), then repeat until perfect. Then print. To fix the addresses, place the cursor in the QSL Mgr window --ensure that a callsign is in that window--and press Ctl-E to open the address window. If the window opens blank, you need to type in or paste in a mailing address. If the station worked is self-managed, put that callsign in the QSL Mgr window. You can fix what is in the window or paste in an address from a lookup program like qrz.com. Some addresses may require shortening. The changes you make will be saved. There is probably a simpler way, but that works for me. Garry, NI6T On 4/9/2013 2:10 PM, Kostas SV1DPI wrote: 1)Manager's data are in Country file. BUT WHEN THE LOG WAS NOT CORRECT (WAS and COUNTY problem) I NOTICED THE FOLLOWING ERROR. Looking to my total I saw that there were 339 DXCC ??? and it should have been 338. My guess is that or I was to quick and dxcc ?ZZZ not completed etc? got in by mistake or something else caused this behavior. Deleting ZZZ doesn?t correct the missing states and counties. So for All those that are interested or having the problems like some Of us do pse check if your current DXCC = 338 when FJ is added. If it is higher you have the ZZZ country and should delete it. I will call Paul later and ask him about it. Only one thing left to say is -- BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP -- Daily Then you can correct problems without to much work. There are free remote backup sites, I use Mozy Remote Backup Only for DX4WIN (free space is upto 2Gb) and Norton Ghost is scheduled 3 times a day in different directories. I copied it also to Jim, since he knows a lot about these things ! * Hi All I was about to reply to Hamad, and now see the note from Guy. 1) From Hamad's first problem, you should be able to export from your backup log IN DX4WIN format; and all county data is preserved. You should then be able to import it into your main log IN DX4WIN format; and set imported date to replace log data; and hopefully all is ok.I have done this on my PC, and it works ok. 2) I also had a few problems creating FJ since the program is not intuitive in this regard. However, I never saw this corrupted country stuff happening. I have set the new FJ on 2 PC's; both are working fine. 3) Or I thought they were ! FJ is terminated correctly in FS in the country file. FJ is created OK in the Country file. However; I tried a fictitious call of FJ/OH2BH and also FJ5KH. Both show up as France !!! If I manually change them to FJ in the log, then that call is mapped to FJ correctly in the country file. Looks to me that an exception needs to be created also for France , to make all FJ's appear correctly ??? I run V7.03.016 under Windows XP on both PC's. 73's Dave G3NKC -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of ON4AOI Sent: 26 December 2007 13:50 To: 'Hamad 9K2HN' Cc: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] PROBLEMS with STATES and COUNTIES in dx4win log Hi Hamad and others , I was following this problem from Prague (OK) When ON4ATW started this thread, The only thing I couldn?t do was replying on the mails. Thanks so much for the procedure. While following your instructions it became apparent that the ability to perform the task I asked about was in the program's capabilities all the time. I just didn't have the insight to figure it out on my own. DX4WIN is indeed a powerful program and I am constantly learning something new all the time. I do apologize that I need some hand-holding from time to time to figure out just how to do something that I can't figure out on my own and can't seem to be able to find the information in the manual, such as clicking on the AUTOMATIC UPDATE option in the F3 window when updating. Thanks again for all the help and support. I am amazed that not only were you able to answer my problem but also revised your DX4WIN web pages to show others how to do this. For those not following the question it went like this. I will use 5H9KR as an example: You log a new DX Contact, such as 5H9KR. While logging this contact DX4WIN shows VU2RKS in the QSL MGR slot. However, my F3 window (QSL data from QRZ.COM and GOLIST) shows KF9TC as the QSL Mgr. So I replace VU2RKS with KF9TC in the logging window and using CTL-E add KF9TC's address to enable printing an address label. But the next time you would update the COUNTRY file all the info concerning KF9TC would be written over and the incorrect VU2RKS would again appear as QSL MGR so when you went to do a follow up on how long you have been waiting for the card it would show you sent it to VU2RKS and not KF9TC as you did. This happened to me on over a 100 entries when I went to 7.0. Luckily ver 6.04 still had all the correct info so I was able to retrieve the QSL MGR data and addresses from 6.04 and merge them with 7.0. This interchanging of QSL Mgr info has been going on forever but I did not realize it until doing some follow-ups on cards I have been waiting to receive back for quite awhile. It would be a real benefit to have more than one qsl manager shown. 1) The one that came with DX4WIN 2) The one that came from the GO list 3) The one that the DX station gave me and I entered 4) The one that was there when I sent the qsl card. I just let ver 7.0 use the Country files that came with it. Using ver 6.04 I had sent out a bunch of QSL's. In doing so I found many of the QSL mangers listed in the country file to be inaccurate (I know, this has been discussed before). On the cards I sent out I

It would certainly be nice (and save me a lot of postage) if DX4WIN could handle the following with background colors for multiple qsl managers: 1) Furnished with Program 2) Found in Go List 3) Added by me 4) Card was previously sent to this qsl manager. It would be nice if the previous date the card was sent was preserved when the card was marked for qsl a second time, since this date is normally lost unless you manually enter it in the notes for this qsl. If the program did this automatically, it would save a lot of work. Handle separate CW and Phone qsl managers easily. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Radivoj KAR

Could it please be noted that the QSL manager for VA3RAC is VE3BNO and not VE3RZ. Thanks, Tony, Ve3rz -- next part -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hi Lee, I thought UA6JY maintained such a list - maybe someone can post a pointer. ON4AOI has a lot of DX4WIN stuff in his library, maybe he has a QSL manager list. My personal opinion is that these lists have a high error rate, and I don't trust them. The only list I trust explicitly is the GOLIST (http://www.golist.net). This is John K1XN's livlihood and he spends a lot of time making sure the data he publishes is correct. DX4WIN 6.x has a high-speed interface to the database which makes the experience even better. 73 - Jim AD1C = Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ad1c.com PGP Fingerprint: D8E2 3D78 339F A7F1 8C13 1193 B5D1 4FB6 79D1 70DC
[Dx4win] qsl managers
For those of you who use my database on the web for qsl lookup, I have converted the database to the format used by dx4win. It is available on my web page for download. Install it in the normal way. I reccommend saving your original file in case you have problems or want to go back. The file has no dupes and has the most current managers I can find.
