The Minnesota DNR#s Natural Heritage and Nongame Research Program
is soliciting proposals for projects to be conducted during the 1996
and/or 1997 field season (or longer).  Proposals for work within
Minnesota that falls within one of the following priority topic areas will be
given preference:

* Life Histories and Management Guidelines for Listed and Rare Plant and
Animal Species
* Surveys for Undersurveyed Species and Taxa (e.g., Nonvascular
Plants, Mussels, Terrestrial Invertebrates)
* Effects of Recreational Activities on Natural Communities
* Vegetation Studies of Sedge-Dominated Wetland Communities
* Effects of Preserve Management and/or Design on Prairie and
Savannah Invertebrates
* Effects of Timber Harvest on Forest Understory Biota
* Ecological Processes in Old-Growth Forest, Prairie, Brush Prairie, and
Parkland
* Effects of Gravel Mining on Adjacent Wetlands
* Use of Grazing as a Management Tool in Prairie and Savannah
Communities
* Exotic Species Management in Natural Communities
* Waterbird Depredation at Aquaculture Facilities
* Recovery of Forest Systems Following Catastrophic Windstorms

Awards average $3,000 per year, but requests up to $10,000 per year
will be considered.  Funding comes from contributions to the Minnesota
Nongame Wildlife Tax Checkoff, Minnesota State Parks Nature Store
Sales, the Minnesota Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and the State
of Minnesota General Fund.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING PROPOSALS IS JANUARY 19, 1996.
DECISIONS WILL BE ANNOUNCED NO LATER THAN MARCH 1, 1996.
