Position: Field Assistant
Location: BC, Canada Dates: Approx. May 7 – June 15 2012 (start date negotiable) Pay: Starting at $1500 CAD per month (can increase with experience) Project: Do fish lower the quality of harlequin duck breeding streams? (Simon Fraser University Ph.D. project) Description: We will be surveying streams in BC and Alberta that contain natural barriers to fish colonization (e.g. waterfalls, canyons, cave systems, velocity barriers). We will be quantifying aquatic invertebrate and harlequin duck densities above and below barriers (training provided). We will be driving to each site and camping in tents. Food and transportation to each field site are included. Candidate should have an interest in ecology and conservation, enjoy the outdoors, be very open to last-minute schedule changes, learn quickly, and be able to work independently. Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude are essential. Experience required: None Preferred: Valid driver’s licence. Post-secondary education in biology, life sciences, or similar. Birding experience, especially the ability to identify terrestrial birds by sight or sound. Backwoods and camping experience. Bear awareness training. First aid training.
