Description:
The work will occur on lands of the NY State Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) and the Palisades
Interstate Park Commission. The Invasives Species Strike Team
Supervisor will perform work for and report to the Invasive Species
Project Specialist and the Invasive Species Control Field Director.
Collaboration and cooperation with regional staff will occur on all
projects. This position requires supervising invasive species field
work at Minnewaska State Park Preserve (50%), the Palisades Region
(25%) and the Taconic Region (25%). See

The goals of the projects will focus on eradication of known invasive
species populations, early detection/rapid response to new
infestations, educating park staff and visitors on the importance of
preventing invasive species introduction and protection of native
habitats. The Strike Team supervisor is expected to be reliable and
motivated with experience in natural resource management. At least one
year of experience with invasives species identification and control
methods is preferred. Supervisor must have past experience delegating
tasks and being responsible for the safety of others in an outdoor
setting.

Duties:
Primary duties include supervision of manual and sometimes mechanical
removal of invasive species, management and submission of paper and
electronic field data, assigning survey transects to team specialists,
and insuring post-removal monitoring is complete. The supervisor will
meet twice weekly with project specialist and/or director for briefing
and debriefing.  As many as 10 overnight travel and camping trips will
be necessary (meal allowance will be paid for overnight trips).
Flexibility, problem solving and leadership skills are necessary.

Qualifications:
•       A degree related to forestry, environmental studies, ecology,
natural resource management, or a relevant discipline such as
conservation biology.
•       A working knowledge of GPS and ecological monitoring methods.
•       The ability to carry 40 pounds and perform physical work in rough
terrain in summer conditions.
•       Some knowledge of invasive New York flora and fauna.
•       Past experience in a supervisory position.
•       Strong interest in and commitment to environmental stewardship and
team-oriented approach to solving environmental challenges.
•       First Aid and CPR certification as a minimum WFR preferred.
•       Must possess a valid NY driver’s license.
•       Camping skills and equipment.
•       Leave No Trace camping knowledge is strongly desired.
•       NOLS, Outward Bound or similar outdoor leadership training a plus.

in rough terrain in the outdoors in hot, rainy or otherwise unpleasant
weather conditions. As many as 10 overnight travel and camping trips

These positions require a significant amount of travel operating as a
member of the Invasives Species Strike Team. Eradication of known
invasive species populations, early detection / rapid response and
protection of native species and habitats are the goals of the
projects. Field specialists are expected to be reliable, able to
travel 4 nights per week and motivated with an interest in natural
resource management.

Duties:

performing post-removal monitoring. Specialists must be able to
perform physical work and hike in rough terrain in the outdoors in
hot, rainy or otherwise unpleasant weather conditions. Weekly camping
at state park campgrounds will be necessary. The team will deploy with
work assignment(s), directions and contacts from Minnewaska State Park
Preserve on Mondays and return on Fridays. Flexibility,
problem-solving and self-motivation are necessary.

Qualifications:
•       An interest in or course work related to forestry, environmental
studies or natural resource management, or a relevant discipline such
as general or conservation biology.
•       Experience or desire to use handheld GPS devices.
•       The ability to carry 40 pounds and perform physical work in rough
terrain in summer conditions.

team-oriented approach to solving environmental challenges.
