The Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island
seeks to hire a full-time lecturer in coastal resiliency. The position
is full-time academic year, limited to 06-30-2020 with anticipated
renewal, to begin Fall 2019.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on coastal and ocean issues and
science, such as Living by the Ocean (OCG108G) and an introductory
graduate course related to coastal resiliency in support of the Master
of Oceanography program. The expected course load is 12 credits per
semester with a mixture of 3-credit and 4-credit courses. Online
teaching may also be included.

Advise students in the Master of Oceanography program.

Develop courses and participate in all aspects of course assessment.
This includes the preparation of exams, syllabi, and online resources.

Serve as the communications manager and liaison for the Coastal
Resources Center (CRC). Responsibilities include keeping key CRC
stakeholders, including but not limited to the public, donors, coastal
and marine policy-makers and practitioners, press agencies, and other
key audiences updated on CRC projects and initiatives. Write and/or edit
copy for the CRC website and other corporate documents including the
Center's Prospectus and other marketing and outreach materials; author
and/or edit program success stories, publications, news editorials,
newsletters; and edit program proposals and program technical reports as
needed. Coordinate with other CRC staff tasked with providing
communications services for their program/projects. Also serve as a
mentor and communications liaison with program communications
specialists in CRC program field offices in developing countries.   Some
international travel, limited to 4 weeks per year, required.

Perform applied research of an advanced and independent nature related 
to facets of one or more international development 
project(s)/program(s); provide technical assistance on a wide range of 
coastal/marine governance-related issues of concern in these projects; 
assess, design and deliver as necessary capacity-building/strengthening 
interventions for in-country project staff, partners, and communities; 
and assume budget and administrative responsibility for these 
project(s)/program(s), including overseeing in-country project staff and 
operations.


Design the research protocols, perform independent field surveys, 
analyze results and produce reports with the findings on natural 
resources management/governance issues of concern in selected of the 
Center's international projects/program


Perform and/or supervise those who will perform this applied and basic 
research


Provide and/or oversee others who provide technical assistance on a wide 
array of coastal/marine/natural resources management issues, including 
but not limited to issues of food and income insecurity; livelihoods; 
natural resources degradation; water and sanitation; climate change 
vulnerability, impacts, and adaptive measures; and lack of individual 
and institutional capacity in developing countries to address these and 
other critical issues at hand


*Required*:

1) PhD in a natural resources management or international development 
field and a minimum of two years experience that spans these fields; or 
a master's degree in a natural resources management or international 
development field with a minimum of four years of experience that spans 
both of these fields required.


2) Additional required experience: managing and/or providing technical 
assistance to large, complex, multi-year, multi-million dollar 
international projects;


3) Demonstrated ability to design the research protocols;

4) Perform independent field surveys;

5) Analyze results and produce reports with the findings on natural 
resources management/governance issues of concern in the Center's 
international projects/programs;


6) Demonstrated ability to produce research proposals and research 
technical reports;


7) Demonstrated ability to design small-scale livelihoods development 
initiatives;


8) Familiarity with water and sanitation issues and technical interventions;

9) Familiarity with international private foundation donors and US 
federal funding agencies.


*Also required are the following:*

10) Fluency in written and oral French;

11) The ability to travel to developing countries for multiple one to 
two-week periods each year;


12) Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, partners, and government 
agency personnel from developing countries;


13) Advanced project management and written and oral communication skills;

14) Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate and supervise support 
staff.

Responsible for providing substantial technical support and backstopping 
for the URI Coastal Resources Center's (CRC) portfolio of US and
