[ECOLOG-L] Marine Biology Opportunities

2013-10-15 Thread CARISSA R. SHIPMAN
Hello,

So I am about to finish my masters in marine biology and will be starting a
PhD in marine biotechnology next summer in the Philippines. I am looking
for something to do in marine conservation and diving in the meantime (~6
months) either here in the US or abroad. Preferably an opportunity that
could pay me or at the least provide housing while I work for an
organization. Any leads would be very helpful.

Re: [ECOLOG-L] Volunteer Divers Needed in Marine Protected Areas (Philippines), March/April 2013

2013-06-19 Thread CARISSA R. SHIPMAN
Hello,

I am looking for funding for a PhD to search for anticancer compounds
within sea slugs. My host university and advisor would be at the University
of the Philippines, Diliman. I am a US citizen and will be done my Masters
in marine biology sometime between the end of August and early October.
Does anyone know of any grants or fellowships I could apply for this type
of research other than the NIH graduate fellowship (F31)? My GRE scores
have expired. I am looking for grants and fellowships that do not require
the GRE. I do not qualify for the NSF Graduate Fellowship since I already
will have a Masters degree. Any help and suggestions for funding
opportunities would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

[ECOLOG-L] Raising funds to survey Marine Protected Areas (Philippines), March/April 2013

2013-01-27 Thread CARISSA R. SHIPMAN
Hello everyone,

I am raising funds through GoFundMe to survey Marine Protected Areas in the
Philippines this March and April. You can read what I will be doing there
in the below link. You may pass this on to others you may know who may be
interested in my volunteer work. Thanks for your support. Carissa

[ECOLOG-L] Review on sea slug anticancer compounds

2012-12-18 Thread CARISSA R. SHIPMAN
Hello,

I am a graduate student in marine biology interested in publishing a *review
* paper I wrote for my seminar course. The focus of the paper is
anticancer compounds from sea slugs and suggests several new species to be
looked at using phylogenetics and systematics. I have done some research on
some possible journals I could submit to, but am seeking more suggestions.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Carissa

[ECOLOG-L] Recommended books and courses for GRE prep

2011-01-06 Thread CARISSA R. SHIPMAN
Dear fellow scientists,

I appreciate everyone's feedback with regards to GRE's. I took mine and was
accepted into a Master's program which I am currently in and just started
last semester. Presently, I am without research funding and realize this
could be because of my GRE scores, however, I will never know for sure. Now
that you have all given me such excellent advice, I was wondering what books
and courses you recommended to study and read to do well on the GRE? Is
there anyway to study that is less time consumming? Any advice would be
helpful. Sincerely, Carissa

[ECOLOG-L] Retaking GRE for PhD

2011-01-05 Thread CARISSA R. SHIPMAN
Dear fellow scientists,

I am curious to know whether I should retake the GRE to get into a good PhD
program? I just completed my first semester of my masters. I spoke to a PhD
student at Berkeley who stated that graduate programs are not emphasizing
the GRE so much anymore, however I do not think this is the case, as I was
denied acceptance to UNR for my masters since my scores were not at least a
1200. I want to get a PhD in either comparative biology, invertebrate
zoology, or marine biology. I am not sure, which PhD programs I will be
applying to. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Carissa
Shipman
