We are searching for a plant ecologist (tenure-track) to join the faculty in 
the Department of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, 
VA. The position can begin spring or fall semester, 2019.  Further details on

Job Description:
The Department of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites 
applications for a tenure-track position in Plant Ecology at the Assistant 
Professor level to begin in spring or fall semester, 2019. All areas of plant 
ecology will be considered, but applicants using field techniques are strongly 
preferred. Expertise in coastal or wetland plants is desirable. Teaching 
responsibilities include general botany, plant ecology, and undergraduate and 
graduate-level courses in the candidate's specialty. In addition to a strong 
commitment to teaching excellence, the candidate is expected to develop an 
internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program. Opportunities 
for collaboration in coastal/wetland ecology exist within the Departments of 
Biological Sciences and Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences and through the 
ODU Resilience Collaborative

Blackwater Ecological Preserve and Kaplan Orchid Conservatory are also 
available for use in research and teaching.  The Department of Biological 
Sciences has a vigorous graduate program with over 100 students enrolled.

The Department of Biological Sciences at Marshall University
(www.marshall.edu/biology) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant
Professor of Plant Ecology position. The department will give preference to
candidates with prior teaching experience in Ecology and strong quantitative
skills. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Plant Ecology.
Relevant postdoctoral experience is preferred. Demonstrated excellence in
both teaching and research, as well as outstanding communication skills are
desired. Experience with greenhouse management is a plus.

Duties include:
Actively pursuing extramurally funded scientific research in an area of the
candidate’s expertise.
Mentoring undergraduate and graduate research students.
Teaching BSC 320 Principles of Ecology, introductory biology, and
upper-level/graduate offerings.
Developing new course materials, including syllabi, lecture presentations
and assessment tools.
Contributing to the learning of undergraduate and graduate students, through
class teaching, small group discussions and one-on-one sessions with
individual students.
Serving on departmental, college and/or university committees.

The department seeks candidates who will contribute to the University’s
general education curriculum with its emphasis on a common First-Year
Seminar and core curriculum courses that enhance students’ critical
thinking, and to the College’s interdisciplinary programs of study.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a PhD or
equivalent in Plant Ecology or a closely-related discipline, a record of:
research publications, active pursuit of external research funding and
excellent teaching and communication skills.

Postdoctoral research, experience mentoring research students and
demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job
description.

The Bates College Department of Biology invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant professor of Plant Ecology, beginning 1 August 2015.

The successful applicant’s teaching will include Biostatistics (Biology
244); rotation through our core course in Ecology and Evolution (Biology
270); and electives that serve our major, related fields of study, and
general education requirements. The specific research area within plant
ecology is open, but the candidate’s teaching and thesis supervision should
be able to contribute to our interdisciplinary program in Environmental
Studies.
