Pittsburgh, please consider coming into town a day early and registering
for field trip #3. This field trip, co-sponsored by the Applied Ecology,
Urban Ecosystems Ecology, and Environmental Justice Sections, will be on
Saturday, July 31. The title of the event is FT 3: Brownfield Blitzes: A
Dialog with Inner City Pittsburgh Neighborhoods Using Visual Approaches
for Conserving Biodiversity, Engaging Local Communities, Sharing
Knowledge, and Addressing Environmental Justice. We are looking for
people interested in digging in and providing information on the plants
(native, cultivated and invasive), the animals (all taxa), the soils,
the drainage, possible contaminants, and any other data on 2-3 urban
brownfield sites in the Pittsburgh area. We will be working with NGOs
from the Pittsburgh area, as well as members of the ESA Student Section.
The information gather will assist owners and the neighbors develop
plans for re-use of the sites along this block. Please consider lending
your ecological expertise and joining us on this field trip. For
additional information, contact Hal Balbach, Vice-Chair of the Applied
Ecology Section, at hal.e.balb...@usace.army.mil. We hope to see you in
Pittsburgh.
