Cailin Huyck Orr ________________________________ Dear Colleagues The white paper in the following link conveys (in draft form) the outcomes of an October 6-7 workshop on intersections of Earth surface process science and NSF's SEES (Science, Engineering, and Education for Sustainability) initiative. The paper is available at https://netfiles.umn.edu/xythoswfs/webui/_xy-19935902_1-t_cLewUwlG The recent flurry of proposal solicitations under the NSF-wide, multi-year SEES initiative offers opportunities for the Earth surface process community to contribute to global sustainability issues while also advancing its scientific priorities as exemplified in the recent NRC report Landscapes on the Edge. Given this, the NSF Geomorphology and Land Use Dynamics program supported this workshop with the aim of sharpening the community's awareness of SEES opportunities and to highlight the intersections of these opportunities with research priorities of the Earth surface process community. Many thanks to workshop organizers Dorothy Merritts and Chris Paola, and the other 14 workshop participants, who worked effectively and efficiently on behalf of the whole community to produce the attached white paper.
