A 2-year Postdoc position is available at the Department of Forest Ecology and Management, SLU, which offers the unique opportunity to explore forest and water cycles of the boreal forest landscape. The main goal of this project is to improve our understanding of management and climate impacts on the carbon sequestration potentials and water use efficiency of boreal forests. The project is based on eddy covariance flux measurements supported by a suit of ancillary measurements. The study field sites are located close to Vindeln, Västerbotten, and include the well-established research infrastructures of ICOS-Svartberget ( www.icos-sweden.se/station_svartberget.html) and the Rosinedal Experimental Forests ( https://www.slu.se/en/departments/field-based-forest-research/experimental-forests/vindeln-experimental-forests/rosinedal/). The latter includes an exceptional experimental set up with long-term ecosystem-scale nitrogen addition to explore the impacts of elevated nitrogen levels on ecosystems carbon and water budgets. The project is part of the multi-disciplinary research program ‘Branchpoints’ which explores carbon and water fluxes in boreal forests by the use of isotopic techniques, eddy covariance and modeling ( https://kaw.wallenberg.org/en/research/carbon-and-water-behind-forest-growth). The Postdoc project will contribute to this ambitious research framework with eddy covariance data required for method comparisons across multiple scales. The successful candidate will be joining a group of senior scientists, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students conducting collaborative research in the boreal forest landscape. Thus, this project offers ample possibilities for scientific interactions and career development. *Qualifications:* • The candidate must have a PhD awarded in the fields of environmental sciences, ecology, physical geography or any other closely related subject • Demonstrated experience with eddy covariance data and micrometeorological theory including data processing (e.g. using EddyPro) and interpretation is required • The candidate should have work experience and interest in the forest carbon and water cycles • The candidate must be able to independently conduct field work, which also requires a driver's license valid in Sweden. • The candidate must be fluent in English to be able to write, communicate and interact in an English-speaking environment. • The candidate must have documented experience in writing and publishing scientific articles • Experience in either one or more of the following is considered a merit: carbon cycle research in boreal landscapes, skills in GIS, logger programming and/or in the handling and processing of large data sets (e.g. using Matlab, R, etc). *Place of work*: The postdoc location is at the Forestry Faculty of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Department of Forest Ecology & Management, in Umeå, Sweden. *Starting date*: Spring 2019 *To apply:* Please send a CV, publication list, copy of PhD diploma, copies of up to three relevant publications and a motivation letter (max. 2 pages) outlining previous research, current research interests and other activities of relevance for the position.
