Applications are invited for an entry-level permanent full-time tenure track 
position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Institute for Environmental 
and Interdisciplinary Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. We are 
interested in candidates with broad training and expertise and that embrace 
interdisciplinary in scientific research and teaching. Interdisciplinary 
Science and Practice (ISAP) is a new undergraduate science program that has 
been developed within the Institute for Environmental and Interdisciplinary 
Science with a focus on enhancing skill sets in science communication, 
community engagement, and synthesising multiple forms of knowledge to inform 
policy and management. Applicants must be able to teach core undergraduate 
courses in the Interdisciplinary Science and Practice (ISAP) program in the 
realm of data analysis and evidence synthesis, augment existing teaching and 
research strengths within the Institute, and provide research leadership 
consistent with an evidence-based approach to scientific communication, policy, 
and practice.

About the Academic Unit:
The Institute for Environmental and Interdisciplinary Science is a student 
-centred undergraduate teaching unit with close connections to a variety of 
Departments including Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Physics, Health 
Science and Geography, all of which have vibrant graduate programs. Although 
the primary appointment would be with the Institute, the successful applicant 
would be cross­-appointed to one or more Departments based on their research 
expertise. The curriculum in the Institute is innovative and involves many 
opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in understanding and 
solving real-world problems through field courses, practicum courses and group

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and demonstrated excellence and 
commitment to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate-level 
students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an 
externally funded research program that spans fundamental and applied realms of 
interdisciplinary science. Research topics of particular interest include but 
are not limited to data science, evidence synthesis, meta-analysis, decision 
support tools (such as structured decision making), and knowledge mobilization 
and translation in the context of science application such as in health or the 
environment. Applicants with the ability to forge collaborations with members 
of the Institute and interdisciplinary-oriented faculty across the university, 
as well as with allied agencies, will be given preference.
