TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN BIOLOGY: Eastern Washington University Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Microbiology with a preferred start date on September, 2017.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Teach courses that could include general microbiology, microbial physiology, upper division microbiology-related electives that serve either environmental or preclinical students, medical microbiology for non-majors, molecular biology, introductory courses, and graduate courses; 2) develop and sustain an active research program that provides research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students; 3) obtain external funding to support scholarly activities; 4) supervise Master's theses and undergraduate research; 5) advise and mentor undergraduate students; 6) professionally engage with the local community. All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and in assessment of learning outcomes. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1 ) Ph.D. in Microbiology or related area. ABD candidates may be considered, but Ph.D. must be completed no later than the candidate's start date for the position. 2) Demonstrated ability to teach microbiology. Ability may be demonstrated by prior successful teaching experience in microbiology, courses taken, research and publications, and/or professional experience in this area. 3) Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1) At least one year of post-doctoral experience. 2) Teaching experience in microbiology. 3) Ability to teach core courses in introductory biology and molecular biology. Teaching ability may be demonstrated through prior courses taught and/or professional experience in relevant areas. 4) Demonstrated experience in microbial ecology, e.g. soil or aquatic environments The review of applications will begin on November 1, 2016.
