As others have reported, using the version (5.14 by now) here fixes this
problem (on Ubuntu 20.04).

However, Leo Herzog wrote that he purged Calibre. I didn't want to do
this because I did not want to deal with rebuilding my library, so I

Honestly, guys, I am not sure what's the correct solution here, but `apt
get install calibre` getting me a buggy version, while there's a fix
released half a year ago, is not ok!
Using the latest version from here worked flawlessly.

It is "fix released" for calibre upstream, not Ubuntu. Which is an
incorrect status, upstream doesn't support your qt version and there is
no fix. Upstream uses newer qt.
