*Call for Papers*



Recent psychological research on episodic memory has motivated a dramatic
reconceptualization of memory as a form of *mental time travel* into the
past, or, alternatively, as a form of imagining or simulating past
episodes. This reconceptualization has led many psychologists and
philosophers to adopt a view of episodic memory as one instance of a more
general capacity to mentally travel into both the past and the future, as
both processes seem to involve similar forms of simulating or imagining
episodes. This view has, in turn, raised a wide range of theoretical and
empirical questions pertaining to the relationships among episodic memory,
episodic future thought, and other forms of mental time travel. To cite
just one example: while the dominant view in psychology has come to be that
there is no difference in kind between episodic memory and episodic future
thought, the dominant view in philosophy, due in part to the influence of
the causal theory of memory, continues to be that there is in fact a
difference in kind, that episodic memory has metaphysical, epistemological,
or phenomenological features that are not shared by episodic future
thought. There are substantial numbers of psychologists and philosophers
who reject the dominant views in their respective disciplines, and the
debate over this issue shows no sign of dying down. The special issue will
bring together researchers from philosophy and psychology to discuss this
and other theoretical issues raised by the idea of memory as mental time
travel.



Papers should address both memory and its relationship to mental time
travel, aiming to make informative contributions at the intersection
between the philosophy and the psychology of memory and mental time travel.



Deadline for submissions: June 15, 2019



*Potential topics include (but are not limited to):*



·  The relationship between memory and imagination; the relationship
between memory and imagination may also play a role in discussions of any
of the other topics.



·  Memory as MTT and: personal identity; the self; and the sense of
ownership for memory.



·  Continuities and discontinuities between memory and MTT:
epistemological, metaphysical, and phenomenological aspects.



·  The epistemology of memory as MTT: our knowledge of past (and
future?) events; the factivity of memory.



·  The phenomenology of memory as MTT: autonoesis; chronesthesia; field
and observer perspectives in memory.



·  The metaphysics of memory as MTT: theories of remembering; the
objects of memory; memory and MTT as natural kinds; memory traces.



·  Representation in MTT: the nature of representational content in
MTT; memory errors; (meta)representation; nonrepresentational approaches.



·  Developmental, evolutionary, functional, and comparative
perspectives on memory as MTT.



·  Memory as MTT and extended cognition: external memory; collective
memory.



·  Memory as MTT and mental disorders



·  MTT and semantic memory



·  MTT and affect in memory/affective memory



·  MTT and the ethics of memory

1878-5166) is a peerreviewed journal, published quarterly by Springer,
which focuses on philosophical and foundational issues in cognitive
science. The journal’s aim is to provide a forum for discussion on topics
of mutual interest to philosophers and psychologists and to foster
interdisciplinary research at the crossroads of philosophy and the sciences
of the mind, including the neural, behavioral and social sciences. The
journal publishes theoretical works grounded in empirical research as well

Description de la fonction

Encadrement
L’assistant·e accomplira des tâches d’encadrement dans les enseignements 
relevant du domaine de la philosophie (programmes de bachelier et /ou de master 
en philosophie et/ou dans d’autres programmes).

Les tâches peuvent comprendre la conception de supports pédagogiques.

La fonction inclut des tâches d’encadrement des exercices, séminaires et 
travaux pratiques, en particulier les travaux dirigés de philosophie en premier 
et deuxième blocs annuels, ainsi qu’une aide à la conception et à la correction 
des examens et des évaluations des cours de philosophie en dehors des 
programmes de l'Ecole de philosophie (EFIL).

Le contenu des encadrements à assumer est déterminé par le président de l’École 
de philosophie (après concertation avec les enseignants concernés) avant le 
début de l’année académique, de même que la répartition de la charge sur les 
deux quadrimestres.

Recherche

L’assistant·e développera des activités de recherche en philosophie, afin de 
réaliser une thèse de doctorat dans ce domaine. Le sujet de recherche se 
situera de manière privilégiée dans un des domaines d'expertise développés au 
sein l'Institut supérieur de philosophie (ISP).

Le ou la candidat·e est invité·e à joindre, dans la mesure du possible, un 
projet de thèse à son dossier.

Il s’agit d’un poste de deux ans, renouvelable deux fois (max 6 ans).
Qualifications requises

Diplôme de Master en philosophie, en éthique ou diplôme équivalent obtenu avec 
mention, au minimum équivalente à la distinction.
Compétences en Philosophie générale et en logique.
Capacité et motivation à s’intégrer dans une équipe d’enseignement ainsi que 
dans une équipe de recherche.
Capacité et motivation à développer des aptitudes pédagogiques dans le cadre de 
l’enseignement universitaire.
Parfaite maîtrise de la langue française.
La maîtrise de l’anglais est souhaitée.
Le cas échéant, la maîtrise de la langue source de sa thèse.
Aptitude de communication.
Sens de l’initiative et des responsabilités.
Une expérience pédagogique ou de recherche, de même que l’agrégation de 
l’enseignement secondaire supérieur, constituent un atout.

La fonction implique la contribution à la dynamique de la faculté et de 
l’institut à travers la réalisation de tâches institutionnelles et logistiques 
diverses à convenir et la participation aux réunions, aux séances d’information 
et de promotion des programmes de philosophie et de la Faculté au sein de l’UCL 
et auprès des futurs étudiants, à la surveillance des examens en grands 
auditoires, ainsi que les évènements jalonnant l’année académique.
