the MAP – the Research Master in Metaphysics and Mind at USI, Lugano


The MAP programme:

- is exceptional in that it counts among its teachers some of the most 
renowned, leading figures in contemporary analytic philosophy.

- has a clear focus on metaphysics, the philosophy of mind, ancient and 
medieval philosophy.

- is a research-oriented programme, aimed at preparing master students to the 
most demanding Ph.D. programmes around the world.

- is based in Switzerland. Switzerland is committed to investing substantially 
in all areas of research, including philosophy. Switzerland is unusual in 
making available generous research grants both in universities and at the 
national level. The Swiss National Science Foundation awards both individual 
grants and grants for research projects and training networks.

Teaching comprises lectures, master classes, discussion of presentations by 
students, group work, and discussions of papers produced by students.

The MAP offers several students exchange opportunities (for example: Amsterdam, 
Geneva and Barcelona)  which complement nicely the local programme.

The programme is supported by several generous merit-based scholarships, and 
seven research student assistant positions available for the students of the 
MAP.
