The service has been shutdown. You can use another free SIP service
like linphone.org for example.

There are other free SIP service providers, for example linphone.org.

The source code of ekiga is still available, but not developed
further since quite some time.

This is the website of the ekiga _software/project_.

I think it was the same as ekiga.net (the website of the ekiga _SIP
service_), but don't nail me down on that. :-)

Under GNOME you could also use Empathy, IIRC.

 Hi everyone,

Ekiga.net has been running since 2006 when there were no free SIP
providers. Maintaining the platform is much work for our small team.
Some features have been missing for years without anyone having the
 time to implement them.

Should we keep the platform or try to find a partnership with
someone to move it to another platform?

 Who is using Ekiga.net?
I'm a longtime Ekiga.net user and I'm using it almost every day on my
mobile phone or desktop machine since about two years (when my own
Asterisk server machine broke down).

Through the years there have been nearly 1 million subscribers.

Ah well, if each of them had donated 1 € ;)
Donations would certainly be an option for me (as long as I don't have
to be a Paypal customer for this ;) ).

But I'm also curious to know what the team likes to do, what the other
options and especially the missing feature are. I have to admit that I
didn't miss any feature up to now. :-)

br,
Gerhard

PS: thanks a lot for keeping Ekiga.net up and running so far.

Thus is becomes official.

I rebuilt the packages using cowbuilder. I also built ekiga with
g++-4.2 so everything has been built with lenny paackages. You can
find the files here : http://blaniel.free.fr/debian/lenny-backports/

Do you have the line to be added to /etc/apt/sources.list? Or should
the user install them manually (with dpkg)?
I put the line in /etc/apt/sources.list. But the i386 non-debug Debian
package seems to be missing in the repository.

You receive a PDU asking you to authenticate, but it seems your asterisk
 never authenticates.

Are you sure you did not change *your* configuration ? Ekiga.net still
behaves the same as before and I see a few Asterisk PBX systems
 registered there.
Absolutely sure. I had this configuration (asterisk server and siproxd)
running fine with ekiga.net for several months. Otherwise I wonder why
it worked before!?

Thanks!

Perhaps you could try the forgot password link on ekiga.net just in case
your password would not have been correctly imported from the old DB
 into the new one.
Yes, the password is different in the new DB. One character was converted
to a space. I changed it in the sip.conf and Asterisk is able to register again.
Is it possible to change the password without using the Ekiga client?

Thanks a lot!

Not yet, but we will implement that soon.
Great! Something like the old web interface would be really handy.

Are you using Ekiga with the Asterisk server or not ?
I'm using the ekiga.net SIP service with Asterisk and some SIP
hardware telephones as well as the Ekiga program to call the
server at home. :-)

Thanks!
