Ah. I see we've both presented our operating preferences as if they reflect
those of the majority of contesters. Sorry for that.
There have been posts from both sides of the fence. Some ops apparently can
memorize or hear the radio's settings, and other cannot or don't want to.

Not a bit. Rev B will get you there perfectly. Rev C streamlines the process
to remove perhaps 5 minutes of work, that's all.
Because many steps were moved around, if you've started assembly with Rev B
I recommend you finish using that Rev to be sure you don't miss any steps.

Well, speaking as someone with an almost big-gun station, and one who has
operated from several of the biggest stations in the Northeast, with some of
the best operators on the planet, and also one who has had the rate meter up
to 350/hr in Barbados, I can tell you that knobs can and do get
Does anyone know if production run 2 is shipping yet for the K3?
I wonder how many K3's can be shipped per week?

I would guess not very many, judging from the serial numbers being
reported here occasionally as they are received in the field. 117 the
other day is the highest SN I can remember.

I think you meant that they don't have group delay variations.
That's right, even FIR filters have group delay. It's typically equal to
half the length (impulse response) of the filter.
Actually I have a feeling that constant group delay is only true of
finite impulse response filters.
The amount of ringing of a bandpass filter depends on the bandwidth of the
individual poles (crystals or tuned circuits) that make up the filter.
One way to make a bandpass filter is to cascade a bunch of 1-pole
(single-crystal) filters with isolation amps so they don't interact. You

Only under the most favorable scenario would second
production run units ship before year end 2007.
You won't know how many units can be or are
Dick, I'm sorry that you got offended (not my post),
but happy that such an interesting post came out of
it.
Many of us that followed the Orion project on that

Not everyone will agree with 100% of your post, but

Good Evening,
Winter is truly here; the snow is getting deeper as I write. Because I may
be snowed in for a few days I drove into town with the 4WD F-250. Good thing I
took that instead of the Ranger because on the way back it got very slippery.
Up here there were six inches of snow when
