Good Evening,
It is always surprising where my signal can reach. But QSB was
alternately boosting and diminishing signals. Some overall hiss but
mostly quiet with a few whistlers passing through the frequency.

Are there any plans yet for a KPA 1500 in Kit form?

Rich,
I assume you are using the internal ATU. If so, the external wattmeter
will not change - it will show the SWR into the antenna, and not at the
input to the internal ATU.
An ATU does not change the antenna SWR, it only adds L and C in a
combination that will make the PA transistors in
Rich,
As you describe your configuration, your SWR bridge is between your KX2
and the antenna. The matching that takes place is within your KX2, and
apparently, the ATU was able to achieve a match. That doesn't change
what was happening on the transmission line from the antenna to your SWR
didn’t take a spiderpole, but a Crankir, its bag just fit in my checked
luggage, made it to VP9 and back without a question .

The Zepp is not 50R. The Yagi is. Both SWR meters are likely telling you

May be a dumb question but is your SWR bridge between the ATU and the
antenna? If so, it is not going to give you any useful information.

While attempting to get Z60A on 40M last night I ran into a problem that I
never encountered before.
My KX2 has the built in auto ATU. I took the output from the rig into a QRP
SWR/PWR bridge and then into my 40M EDZ and hit the "ATU" on the rig. "Click,

It's a clever modernised take on the Paraset.
I like it!

Thanks, guys, for understanding - and being interested.
It is a fun kit to build and is from Four States QRP Group,
http://www.4sqrp.com . This a regenerative design based on the famous
Paraset and Atlantic Hopper, which Four States calls the Bayou Hopper.
I had my first qso on it yesterday
Not a problem Mike. It is radio related.
You might fill us in on where you got it and cost. It looks like a nice QRP
kit to build.
Can you give us details on power out etc.?

Hi Thaire,
The 6Gs DXpeditions (TX6G, E6GG, ZL7G + later this year VK9X(full call TBD))
have all included 12m and/or 18m Spiderpoles as antenna supports. We wrap
them in bubble wrap and ship them in ski bags or hard ski/snowboard cases as

I will be flying to Europe in a few weeks with my KX3 and a Spiderpole. Has
anyone had experience bringing a Spiderpole through security or checking as

I usually get it from DigiKey. They carry a large variety.

This an informal, nonscientific survey: Would there be any interest in leasing
rather than buying a KPA1500? The full price of the amp is $6K, which with
sales taxes and shipping, if applicable, would bring it to $6.5K or so. Not
everyone wants to plunk that much down all at once. So I was

Have you tried that in a google search?

Slowly, ever so slowly over the years, I shifted from QRP CW, mostly with
the K2, to 100w SSB, with the K3 and a couple of other rigs, operating only
on a couple of SSB nets.
And then I read Wayne's post. And the responses.
And looked at the K2 on the desk, connected but unused, gathering dust.
I'll poke around and try to find my notes.

Tom,
I can't explain the cause of what's happening. Rob and I ran into
some craziness last weekend with power out and the antenna tuner. We
fixed the symptom, but have been unable to trace the cause. In my case,

If you enjoy kit building, the K2 goes together one part at a time, just
like any other kit. Enjoy the process.
The K2 breaks the assembly into 3 major pieces and has an alignment and
test section following each assembly section so you can check your work.

All,
On the KI6WX mod, the value of R9 should be 1.5k instead of 15k as
stated. Please excuse my "late night fingers".
Those two resistor changes are only necessary if the KI6WX KSB2 mod is
added to a K2 with the KPA100 installed.

I bought a used k2 and just spent 12 hrs building a Kant-100.
The k2 looks like a bigger challenge .
Mine had the 100w amp included.
