Dave:
I've had a K3s without the subreceiver for years. When I pushed the
"Sub" button, "No Sub" appeared in the display just like you described.
A few months ago, I bought the subreceiver and installed it. When I
first turned the K3s on, the same "No sub" message appeared. I then

Dear Folks:
I suspect that Elecraft no longer sells the KRX3A subreceiver. Can
anyone please confirm that for me, and assuming they do not, does anyone
have one for sale?
Thanks and 73, de Bernie, KF0QS

Dear Folks:
I appreciate all of the recommendations. One of the reasons why I was
considering the Heil mikes is that I already have a pair of nice
headphones on the K3s that are comfortable to wear for hours, though
they don't have a boom mike. I've got a Heil boom mike (Pro-7) set for

Dear Folks:
Although I'm primarily a CW op, and dabble in FT8 (sadly, sometimes
there's no one on anywhere else except for FT8), I'm thinking about
expanding my SSB presence on the bands. I have a K3s and would be
interested if anyone has a specific recommendation for a good
microphone?
Dear Folks:
I'm not really a big FT8 operator, but if you want to work 6 meters,
that's where the action is. Recently, a local ham sent me an email
indicating that I was broadcasting, in addition to my primary FT8
signal, a secondary wider bandwidth signal about 1 khz above my primary
As always, RTFM. The primary of the power transformer has three taps,
intended to accommodate the wide range of AC power that each of us has,
and the manual describes how to change those taps. It sounds like you
need to change yours. As does Bill, K9HZ/J68HZ/six other DX calls (who I

Dear Folks:
I have been using my KPA-500 (driven by the K3s and transmitting through
the KAT-500) for about five years now. I have long noticed that, when
first using it, or if it has sat idling for a while, the amp's supply
voltage will be low on transmit and won't go higher until the amp

Hope this helps.

Dear Folks:
I have a question about use of the Notch filter on my K3s. I am
primarily a CW operator. I understand that, in CW mode, the notch
filter's operation is manual, and you tune (adjust?) the filter using
the VFO B knob (admittedly, I've not tried it in USB or LSB mode, where

Dave Van Wallaghen is who I was referred to by Elecraft for a thorny
problem with my K2. A number of knowledgeable people had looked at the
problem and given up. Not only did Dave spend a long time with me on
email exchanges, trying to help me fix the problem on my own, but once

I got my K3s (#10323) back in October, 2015, and got my KPA 500 (#2664)
a few months later (I have the full K line including the KAT 500).
When I built them, I promptly updated the firmware, and haven't done it
since. I checked and my K3s has Firmware Version 5.35 and the KPA 500
has Version

Since you've not been on HF before, I recommend that you make sure
your K3s is as robust as you can make it in terms of RF capability,
and leave off the frills until you've been on the air for a while and
know what you like. At the beginning, you want contacts to come
easy. I do a
