Hello all, Having acquired a fully loaded K3s fairly recently I am behind the
curve of those fortunate enough to have a K4. Its taken several weeks to get a
decent handle on the K3s and now on to the P3. I have all the manuals
including Fred Cadys K3s and P3. I find the K3s to be excellent
Just a quick note asking if anyone has an SP-3 Elecraft Speaker to part with.
Have been looking for one for quite a while. Thanks73,JimK2hn

Help:
I give them a lot of credit for designing and putting
out quality kits. I believe ham radio and Heathkit
sparked a lot of future engineers and techs and I'm
sure these kits will do the same.

I still use the TR-4 for SSB and also have the R4B.
Using the same antenna the Drakes pull in the same
weak signals as my K2 except the K2 eliminates the
QRN/QRM quite a bit better. As far as sound quality,
using the Drake MS-4 cabinet with the original Drake
speaker and comparing it to the K2
Greg,
As I recall I received a membership certificate then
had to wait quite a while until the next Quarterly
came out. You may have to wait for the Fall issue but
you should be getting the certificate soon.

The theory was bad enough but what about the 20WPM
code. Had to go back three times before I got it.
Had an awful time. I guess that's one of the reasons
I hated to see the cw requirement go. It was so hard

That's right Ken. Either longhand or type it.

that fast now, I'd rather put around at 14 or 15. hi

Just finished final assemby today. The receiver is
the best I've ever had. Very impressive kit and
performance. No glitches (caught a couple of my own
mistakes). Most frustrating time - put one thermal

find it. Searched through the trash
Have been a ham radio operator for so long I

never found anythng negative about it. People have

But why were we losing numbers? Like I said, new

Hello All,
Has anyone had any problems fitting C87 next to the
thermistor board? And yet to come RFC 14? That

very little daylight between it and a connection on
the thermistor board, had to mount it rotated a few

Hello All,
Progress temporarily halted by (who would ever guess)
a tilt bail. Somehow I've gone from great design and

toys together at Xmas Eve. Is this for real? Can
anyone tell me the secret. How many people does it

Thanks for all the help. Used a combination. Came up
with the Big Red method. Sure someone has already
done it. Only requirement is a large clamp or vise.
Follow directions in the manual with first foot and
insert bail in that foot. Take other foot and put the
regular screws in. Chew some
A little behind the curve since I haven't built a
kit this size since the Heathkit days. Picked the
K2 since at age 64 I need to keep the wheels
turning. All I can say is Very Impressive. If the
same minds who engineered the K2 are used on the K3,
its got to be a winner.

Many thanks for all the responses. The K1 was my initial thought to start out
and hopefully the K2 next. It's a real comfort to know this list is here with
some very generous people to help. To think the last kit I built there was no
such thing as the internet and big computers ran on tubes
Hello all,
Have been thinking about getting my feet wet with building either a K1 or KX1.
I see most posts seem to refer to the KX1. Aside from size and portability is
there any difference in performance in the two? I can work with either one but
would prefer the one with best performance.
