Hi,
With all the chatter about the AF-1 audio filter lately I thought i
would post how I mounted the AF1 and an audio amplifier in a small
case to use with my K2. If anyone is interested you can find the
pictures and comments on my web site at lawrenceingram.com. Click on

Ron,
Thanks for the complement; I enjoy seeing what I can do to make
something fit my needs.
I don't have a particularly noisy site but I have the radio sitting
on a shelf with another shelf just above it which makes the top
firing speaker in the K2 more difficult to hear. So I added the
Hisaahi,
I have used both and find both useful. The thing I like about the
AF-1 is the ability to shift the peak frequency.

Hi,
Something curious has happened to my K3 SN 3975 - when I tap the ATU
Tune button the power out shown on an external power meter is full
power, a little over 100W. The K3 power out indicator also kicks up
to full power. I have the unit set to 50W and when I key it normally

Hi again,
Stan KR7C hit it on the head, the external meter is autoranging and
the output is 10W not 100 (red face on this).
Thanks Stan and others who answered.

Hi Alexey,
I am one that uses a straight key - thats the way I started and
although I have played with paddles and bugs I always seem to revert
to the old navy straight key I have had since 1955.

Well my indulgence at the Orlando hamfest arrived yesterday - a new K3.
This means I need to find a new home for one of my K2s - or my wife

Hi,
I recently build my second K2 sn 06405. Receiver and transmitter are
working fine and I have enjoyed a number of QSOs on 40, 30 and 20
meters and the rest of the bands have been checked out with a signal
generator and transmitting into a dummy load.
However, occasionally when I go to
Jon,
I wonder if you are tuning at the fastest rate - at that rate the
signals would seem to jump in and out as you are describing and since
they would not be in the center of the filter passband most of the
time it might explaing the seeming lack of sensitivity.

There have been several comments on enclosing (or not) the W1.
I built one into a small metal enclosure to have something that

Phillip and Don,
You came through for me - I had made a note on the K60XV manual about
changing R6 in the ATU but somehow never got around to doing it.
The resistor change has taken care of the problem and now on
alignment of the 6 meter transverter.
Thanks.

Hi,
I installed the K60XV in my K2 and while checking the output I
discovered that when I increase the power control the output follows
the control until I reach about .85 mW out then the output jumps to
2.7mW and stays there.
When I bring the control back down, the output remains at 2.7mW
Phillip and Don,
Thanks for the quick replies - yes I do have the KAT2 installed. I
originally built the K60XV some months ago and seem to remember
something about changing a resistor in the ATU but I am not sure. I
will look at it in the morning.

This would be nice, and I presume that you mean that the knob would

Jim,
I imagine different DMMs have different lower ranges, but what ever the
lower range is, you can measure even smaller capacitors by paralleling them
with one that does fall into the lower range of your particular DMM. First
measure the value of the capacitor that falls within your DMM's
