Elegance. Excellence. Usefulness. These three qualities are of paramount importance to me: Elegance of product design, excellence in product execution, and overall product usefulness while meeting key objectives. In large part, these hallmark qualities are what has set Elecraft apart from myriad other manufacturers. Indeed, they have "raised the bar" for manufacturers, and for our expectations of them. When I find something good, I want to mention it in mention in passing. When I find something GREAT, I want to shout it from the rooftop. I'm shouting here!
Rework Eliminators are not an Elecraft product, but they easily could be! Offered by Gary (KI4GGX) and Ken (WB2ART), these un-module headers are a logical follow-on accessory for anyone who has (or will have) a K2. Elegance, excellence and usefulness ... sound familiar? Rework Eliminators meet the Elecraft high standards in every way. And let's face it, we're awfully picky about what goes into our K2. Gary and Ken have resolved the problem of being able to temporarily remove specific installed K2 options, returning the K2 to its "virgin" state at will, without compromising the electrical or aesthetic integrity of the K2s pcbs due to reworking (i.e., de-soldering and re-soldering). Their design is truly elegant in its simplicity, superbly executed with very high quality pcbs and assembly & user's guide, with usefulness that will last for the life of your K2. For 20 bucks ($8 - $20, depending upon which flavor kit you purchase), you simply can't go wrong. It's a no-brainer! Long before the Rework Eliminators came to fruition, I had the opportunity to chat with Gary via email as this project was developing in his head. In a sense, I've watched Rework Eliminators "grow up". More importantly, I had ample opportunity to watch Gary and Ken agonize over the smallest details, wanting this to be a no compromise K2 add-on that anyone would be proud to own while maintaining the Elecraft standard that we've all come to expect and respect. In fact, I was so inspired by their attention to detail and quality, I offered to help proof-read the final versions of the User's Guide. Mine was a small contribution, but a proud one nevertheless. So this is my disclaimer: yes, I was a proof-reader, but I was also one of the few who pre-ordered and paid long before the first kit shipped.
