KPA500 shut off with a bang while operating RTTY @300W.
Antenna is a steppir beam.
On opening the KPA500,found 2 ceramic? caps of VRF2933
adrift with underside of the said caps,black.
Have written to support.Is this the first time this has happened
in a KPA500?

Hi All,
KPA500,S/no:1778 was being operated on RTTY at approx.320W.
Antenna is a steppir beam.
Heard a loud DHOOP sound and the amp.went off.
Fuses intact.Opened the top and left side panel,nothing
seen as far as I can make out.
What should I be looking for?

Lid of the AC power entry module has broken and is in my hand.
Entirely my doing.
Will the fuse holder fall out while I am looking for a replacement?

KPA500 s/n-1778 Factory assembled.
This morning noticed the blank but lit LCD screen mid-ops.
The amp.is working ok except for the blank screen.
Amp. amplifies,switches bands etc;used with K3

I have a K3 #282 which is used on CW and FSK via 2 serial port
pcmcia card in a laptop.
I have been using this combo for last 2 years without any
problem,alternating between CW and
FSK using MixW(reg).
Last week I came back from IOTA AS-175 where this combo was used flawlessly.
I have worked Bob,KP2/W1EQ on 10m.
Got qsl on LoTW too.
100W K3/100 into 3el Steppir.

K3/100 #282,worked 5 bands,3 modes and 9 slots.
17m,20m,30m,40m and 80m.Higher bands not heard.
Power 100W. Antenna--80m almost full-size dipole.
My 3el Steppir is temp.qrt,awaiting spares.
I do have sub-rx with 400Hz in both rx. Also P3.
Depending on Dx locn. 2nd rx is of no use if you

Yesterday,while chasing ZL8X on various bands and modes,on 40m LSB
I could not get RX audio.Changing to USB got the audio back.
Checked on other bands,toggling between usb/lsb gives dead silence
on lsb.
RF gain wide open.Af gain same all bands and modes.AGC-F. Filter
as wide as can go.No VOX
Ordered as a kit on 16th April.Assembled on 28th Sept.Took one hour to
assemble.
Worked right away.
I had a FT-840 before K3,so no exposure to any kind of pan display.Lots to
learn.

Did a K3DSPLPF mod along with an addition of Xtal filter in KRX3.
Also did SS H/W change.
At the closing phase noticed a capacitor fallen on work table.
Went ahead with assy.after looking for a missing capacitor in
available visible areas.Gave up looking after an hour.This was
yesterday night.K3
The capacitor does show that it had been soldered.

I cannot believe that a capacitor would actually come
unsoldered and fall
off a pcb; it's more likely that it was packed loose for some odd reason and
just happened to drop
I presume my K3 has a Rev.B DSP board.This is my 'only' radio.
I cannot disable K3 for any duration either for swap-out of dsp to
bring it to Rev.D status or go through the hassle of getting a current
dsp board with a lead time of whatever and shipping back removed
dsp board.

board.
From reporting the defect to change of board took one week.For me,whatever
defect I encounter in my K3,shipping the whole rig to US is not an option.

I have a problem with my K3/100 #282.
Background:I use Mixw for cw/digimodes.Last week I lost
com port,could get it back only by reseating the usb
connector on the laptop.Had to do this every operating
session.Did'nt matter if I switched on the laptop first
or K3.
On 22/06 night I switched
Rec'd invoice #47805 for K3/100 kit for order with
deposit dated 14May'07.
KRX3 on backorder.
