Reminds me of the classic discussions I have had over the years regarding
band/frequency changes. You're going up? down?

I gave up a long time ago as to precision and accuracy (two different animals)
for SWR indicators. First of all there is only one connection sequence - xmtr,
SWR meter, tuner. Any other order, or anything else in line, will confuse and
obfuscate. Ones that I have enjoyed using are the
Just switched to the KX3 internal ATU, but I had been using 5W to tune a
Z-11Pro with no problems.

If you look at most wire specifications (military in particular), you will note
that the temperature rating of the wire is based on the conductor temperature
which is the combination of current heating and ambient temperature. To
determine the effects of ambient temperature, one has to do some
I really like the feel of my MH3 mic. Far more than my MH2. How about an
adapter so I can use it on my K3? Yes, I could build one, but I am getting
lazy in my old age.

Being inherently cheap, I try to avoid buying commercial solutions.
Mated PowerPole connectors can be secured by passing a skinny tie wrap, or a
piece of hookup wire through the holes that are created when two blocks are
dovetailed together. It's a little awkward to describe this
In response to Wayne's poll:
Yes, I definitely use them.
I would prefer to have them 'fixed (programmable) and independent for each
mode.
It would be nice to have settings I can go back to after diddling with
shift/width or hi/lo cut.
Oh, and by the way Wayne, while
The available tuning rates, for the K3, provide something for everyone. The
problem I had was figuring out all of my options and how to get them. Maybe
this will be of some help to others. Hopefully I didn't build any errors into
here. :-)
There are four tuning rates (Hz per knob
The mojo is real. I'm a believer.
Got Ducie Is. on 17m with the first call and 10W SSB. K3 with MH2 mic.

Outside of Aptos, Sunnyvale CA may have the most number of K3's of any city. I
must admit to a limited database, but I personally know of at least three in
Sunnyvale.
Come guys and gals, can any city top that?
I have no doubt that this will spur sales, but at the current rate, how
My K3/10, SN 305, had it's baptism late yesterday with two CW QSO's on 40m.
One operator either had a faulty S-meter, or the Elecraft Mojo was modifying my

Just for the record, I ordered it on April 30, it was shipped Jan 24, and I
received it Jan 25. Hey, I'm just over the
It's QRV, it's fantastic, and now the only problem is training the operator.
I want to thank all the gals and guys at Elecraft for a superb product.
While putting this together, I constantly marveled at the precision with which
everything went together. It's one thing to build some
I guess I could wait until I get my K3, but inquiring minds want to know.
I understand that the narrow (focus) filter is a fixed bandwidth and that the
wider (context) filter bandwidth can be varied.
What is the width of the focus filter? Also, I assume that the context

The perceived reduction of noise, when listening at lower volumes, can well
be related to the Fletcher-Munsen effect. The response curve of the human ear
changes relative to the input level.
The human ear responds best to mid-frequencies at low volume levels, and low

After years of managing a Technical Services operation and a Specifications and

when you finally quit working on it. From initial release to Rev XXX, it is
always a work in progress. :-)
Nice job on the K3
I agree that solder in a tube is convenient, but it limits your choice of
solder types and is not too economical.
For some time, I have used a fly-tying bobbin as a solder dispenser. If you
don't know what that is, go to a fly-fishing shop or a well-equipped sporting
goods store. Be
