From David W4SMT
However I'mgetting some annoying noise from the RS-232. My software polls
the K2 every 250ms (4 times per second) and it generates noise on all bands
every time it's polled.
Hello David,
Did you left the frequency counter test cable connected to TP2 (BFO)?

Hi Pierre.. YES, I did leave the freq counter cable. Is that the problem?
I'm at work right now and can't test it.
Thanks.. David, W4SMT
David,
I just wanted to know if your cable was still in place before opening my K2.
I have the same noise problem, especially on 20 m, and guessed that the
Hi to all,
As mentionned in the KPA100 manual, Q1-Q2 2SC2879 contain Beryllia Ceramic.
Do not break, cut, or crush them, since the dust or vapor can be dangerous.
However, there is a new design, the 2SC2879A. The difference between the
2SC2879 and the 2SC2879A is that the A version is RoHS
Hi,
I built the 100 W PA about 15 months ago. There was a choke across the
antenna jack at J2, to prevent build-up of any static charge at the antenna
jack.
However, I see in the latest manual of the PA that this choke is not shown.
Any reason for it?

Well, I think that the removal of RFC10 is adding a risk to this fine rig.
To rely on external protection (at the antenna
or at the transmission line is risky at best.. As far as I know, all major
brands (Icom, Yaesu..) are providing the extra protection
given by an appropriate choke inside the
Hi Elecrafters.. maybe that question has already been posted, but I ask it
again. I plan to use an IC-706 MKIIG for SSB/VHF operations and a K2 for CW
only. I have a Daiwa CS-201 coax switch. The ''output'' of the switch will
go to an ATU (LDG AT-100Pro), and the inputs to each of the rig.
Hi Elecrafters,
Will the KXB3080 option manual be available soon on the ''Manual Download
section?

Hi Elecrafters,
For field operations with a KX/40.30.20m, I currently use a 28 feet random
wire at the end of a 22 feet pole, and an single 16 feet radial on ground.
The computed impedance is 89 - j 341 ohms at 7 MHz, matched by the
KXAT1.
However, at the low end of 80 m, it should be around
A question about DSP... I did not find any indication about the exact sequence
of filters display in DSP.
For instance, lets say that we select CF2 and the tap XFIL; then, the display
shows an FL filter. But I am not sure that it is one. If I go through until I
get FL1, it does'nt like the
About the noise blanker: Mine is working fine on all bands except for a
particular noise on 40 m. It is killed completly by the NB on all other bands.
But it seems that the gain is not always (works some time) sufficient to
trigger it at 7,050 MHz. That noise is rising to full strength in about
Update: The problem was at L33. Resoldered and replaced the wires correctly
and got back to a good 5 kHz BFO range. Maybe a loose contact or a short on
the coil.
BTW, I got a tip from another Elecrafter: Since the sole purpose of R116 is
to retain L33, adding ''spaghetti sleeving to the leads
Hi to all Elecrafters
I recently built K2/100 # 5170. At the BFO Test (page 62), using CAL FCTR, I
got correct readings: Center at 4913,55 kHz, BFO High 4917,23 and BFO low at
4912,41 respectively.
But something new is happening. The readings changed to 4913,85 (C), 4915.97
(H) and 4913,58
Well, despite very poor conditions, K2 # 5170 came alive tonight for its first
qso. Got a 599 on 40 meters CW from NJ.
Next step will be the 100 watts option.

Hi Eric.. I am just coming back from France and operated my KX1 for a whole
month there..with pretty good results.
Maybe part of the explanation (HI)...:-)

I actually use that same setup (28' wire and 16' ground, BNC adapter). I get
pretty good DX results, and the SWR is about 1:1 on all 3 bands. The end of
that antenna is attached to a 22' fiberglass telescopic pole.
I would be fine to know about your ''mixed results''?

Hi Bill
Got one last year to use on a vertical in conjunction with a standard tuner and
now as a conterpoise to a LW antenna. It resolved effectively a high SWR
problem I had.
It consists of a LC network which creates a low impedance path to a standard
ground. An L and C network don't create
I will travel soon with the KX1, the antenna coils, etc
AND.. a telescopic pole for antenna setup. The key will be the policy of the
airlines, and then the decision of the specific aircrafts personnel. X-ray
scans will show that it is only fiberglass, and there is no sharp point. But
How about KEYIT for Kenwood fans?
