Thinking about remoting my K2 (currently QRP with KAT2, one
day with KPA100) via TCP/IP (e.g. with Ham Radio Deluxe), I
would like to know if SWR value is available via
- KIO2 serial interface?
- KPA100 built-in serial interface?
or do I need some external device like W1?
I am going to use an
David, thanks for your reply!
I gave it a try in a terminal program.
After connection at 4800 baud,
DS; returns the frequency
SW20; enters tune mode (I changed the tune mode to CALS to
have enoogh time for the following command)
DS; returns a ?, although I see the SWR on K2's LCD

Ian GM3SEK referred me to G4WIM's article in Radio
Communication Nov'1986 A 1-8 MHz Auto Tuning Verical
Antenna.
It describes a system, based on phase detector, to tune a
motor-driven coil. Magloop's capacitor could be tuned just
as well, I think.

Julian, Lyle,
thanks for your replies!
Hamsdr magloop tuner is 'simply' an advanced memory device,
helping to reproduce a tuning found once quickly again.
(PLease correct me if I misunderstood it)
I'm still trying to find a magloop tuner which does the same
what I do - searching the resonance,
here is a phase discriminator used in a MIL tuner:

Do you think this is what I was looking for?

Hi,
I'm thinking about building an automatic tuning controller
for my magloop. It could search for a current max, but this
can be a challenging task.
It's probably easier to look for a capacitor position where
the phase between voltage and current crosses the 0, with
reasonable deadband for
Hi,
I'm going to use my K2 with KAT2 internal ATU to operate a
doublet from 80m to 10m including WARC bands without a
balun. Among others, Dave's W8FGU home page inspired me to
try this.
I hope this is not a problem, especially when battery-fed
during portable operation, as there is [almost] no
I think I found it. Making 1-turn loop through T1, I made
the wire jumper about 1/4 shorter as suggested in manual.
After replacing it with correct 1-1/4 one, I am able to
reach 007 mV with C55 adjustment. (thanks to

Don, thanks for quick answer!
With calibrate the SWR, do you mean simply adjusting REFL
R2 until SWR reading is correct, without touching C55 and
FWD R1 any more?

Folks,
yet another KAT2 SWR bridge null adjustment question.
I can reach 003 mV in ATU CALn mode. But after exiting and
entering CALn again, K2 displays 097, 098, 099, 000, 001 and
so on till it reaches a steady state around 003.
What could it mean? Looks to me like a display value overrun

I'm thinking about purchasing KPA100 and KAT100 for my K2.
Is the following true? KAT100 occupies AUX port of KPA100
and makes controlling K2 from PC (MixW etc) impossible.

Hi,
I'm currently checking/aligning my KSB2. The microphone is
not purchased until now, but I still wanted to adjust KSB2
tonight as far as I could.
Can I do a coarse carrier adjustment without configuring P1
first? (R1 has no effect on field strength, S-meter is zero)
Hi,
I've just done BFO alignment and freq. calibration on my K2
and have some
questions.
I can zero beat AM stations around 7130 kHz with +-10Hz.
1) BFO range:
High freq. = 4917.13 KHz (= 4916.3 - ok)
Low freq. = 4913.08 KHz (not = 4912.7 !!!)
Range 4.05 kHz (= 3.6 kHz - ok)
Should I have
