Mike, Park your radio on 50.125 don't JUST listen, CALL CQ occasionally! Make some noise. If everyone listens and no one calls, no one will know that the band is open. By calling, you may even run in to a few locals as well.
Also, remember the AM crowd. They are frequently on 50.400. Listen there as well. There is an activity day time of Saturday morning at 6AM. Yup, 6AM on 6AM. Finally, spin your receiver through the beacon band from time to time.
