[Elecraft] [P3] How do I program these function keys?

I think I'm being dense, but I can't figure out how to program the function keys on my P3. I'm trying to set the span settings. From what I understand I just tap span, dial in what I want, and then tap one of the function keys. It doesn't seem to work so what step am I missing? Staring at the
