certainly appreciated. They did help me get my thinking straight enough to
have success. The basic difficulty was that the operator didn't really
understand how the computer program interacted with the radio.

I think the RS232 data rate is set incorrectly in ACL - it should be 38.4.
The default ACL Elecraft rate (4.8) is based on the K2, whereas the default
data rate in the K3 is 38.4 (which you could set to 4.8). Anyway both the K3

I am an ACLog user and my K3 works just fine with that program. I suspect
that the baud rate is mismatched and that is causing your problem. I have
mine set to run 38.4K baud and the polling rate is set at 100 mS.

My set up works fine, but I am using the KUSB cable that connects the K3 to
the USB port on my XP PC. Here are my AC Log settings in the Settings, Rig
Interface menu:

Mine works fine too with different settings using a straight thru cable to
the RS232 port on an old HP.
Rig = Elecraft
Comm port = 1
Baud Rate = 4.8k
8 data bits
1 stop bits
Connection Power = RTS
Polling rate = 2 sec

Just setup aclog with the K3. working great...
Have it set to port #1, Baud rate same as the rig(38.4), polling rate is 500
ms, on select rig I have elecraft and under that I have freq checked...
