Ed,
Have you considered that possibly the bypass relay in your KXPA100 is
not making proper contact? Or that there is some other failure in your
KXPA100. I would suggest contacting supp...@elecraft.com for additional
analysis.

A quick question:
I use a KX3 + KXPA100 as my QTH setup.
I recently did work on my QTH antenna, and the SWR indicator on my KX3 now
jumps around a lot when transmitting on digital modes, with peaks up to
2/3. As does the power output. Audio levels are good though, same as usual.
And when
And as a quick follow-up: when my KXPA100 is off - and my understanding
is that when it is off, it is bypassed with a relay - then I get a very
high SWR on my KX3, whereas if I connect my antenna to the KX3 directly,
then I have a great tuning...

I just got a KXPA100 yesterday. It seems to work as specified except
that above 10 watts of power, the KX3 display randomly {like in not all
the time} shows two dashes instead of the SWR.
I do not have the internal tuner option. I am using my SGC237

Above 10W of power, the KX3 will disable the internal KXAT3 ATU and rely on the
amplifier to supply the SWR readings over the ACC1 cable. However, the SWR
bridge for the amplifier is part of the KXAT100 ATU option for the amplifier,
so if this option is not equipped, the amplifier will not be

Stan,
That indication is normal when the power level is too low for a valid
SWR computation.
The KX3 SWR indication is used below 10 watts, but the KXPA100
indication is used above that level.
It should go away if you increase (or decrease) the power a bit. It
sounds as though you are

That's exactly what I experienced. Tweaking the power level fixed
it. I was messing at about 12-13 watts when it first occured.
Increased to 15 and it went away.

My KX3 #4475 shows SWR 1.3 when I press tune and send into a dummy load.
I checked cable and dummy load with a MiniVNA pro and my K3, both show perfect

1.0 and 50 ohm. The KX3 has no tuner built in.
Any hints where to look?

The difference between an SWR of 1.3 and 1.1 is minimal. There is
probably some calibration error between the KX3 and MiniVNA. There is
also stray C L in each, so that may contribute to the difference. I
don't know if a forward/reverse power calibration is approved for the
KX3, but it's not
