Hey Elecrafters [and Mike],

The Spartan Sprint will be showing on a ham band near you next week [on
Monday evening or Tuesday AM depending where on the planet you live].
0200Z - 0400Z on 7 December [UTC day], 5 watts max, a perfect exercise
for your KX1, K1, K2, or K3 ... you all know where the PWR knob is on
the those that have it. Actually, any rig at 5W is fine, they just ask
that it be packaged "trail ready."

In Tubby Class, your score is the number of QSO's, and in "Skinny Class"
it's the number of Q's divided by the weight of your radio. Weight of
radio [in international pounds] includes everything between you [but not
including you :-)] and the antenna connector. Typically this is radio
itself, power source, key, and headfones.

I can get my KX1 with KXPD1 paddle and ear buds down to 0.65
international lbs using a 12V 750mAh Li-Poly battery I got at the RC
model shop for about 3W on 40. I'm usually in the field in the summer,
or at least out on the deck. It's forecast to be around -2C on Monday
evening so I'll be Tubby [it happens to fit me as well], and I'll also
try 80. I'll pull my K2 from the excellent case Rose made for me, hook
up the W1 in the box Dave, W8FGU, made for me, and I want LOTS of
stations to work! I had my choice of a KX1, K2, or K3, my K2 is feeling
a bit neglected these days. OK, I worked in all the testimonials I could.

"International pounds" is about as much an oxymoron as "international
feet," although we went to the moon on those.
