Has anyone tried the MFJ-551 RFI suppressed keyboard? This is a PS2
type of keyboard but PS2/USB adapters are cheap. Better yet, any word on when
the Elecraft keyboard will be available?

Maybe I am mistaken but I think I heard of a USB Keyboard option for the
SVGA/FFT board coming from Elecraft. I use all indoor antennas so RFi is
pretty much a constant struggle with interconnect cabling like keyboards.
Ferrites everywhere. I try to go wireless where I can. Heaven knows
Jim,
My understanding is that the USB option for the SVGA board is that it
will *accept* a PC USB keyboard. I have never heard that Elecraft would
be selling a keyboard.

Well, I guess I was just reading into it a version of my wish list Don. I am
currently using a Logitech K120 from Staples. $15.95 and two RS Ferrites. Seems
to work OK at 100W. I tested on all bands 80 thru 10 this AM and it checked out
clean. But there is a KPA500 in my future I am thinkin'.
With indoor antennas, I would not want to be in the high RF level
present with 500 watts. You may be OK, but I would run the numbers
for the RF exposure limits present at 500 watts given the close
proximity to your antennas.

If I remember correctly from earlier threads, there will be no Elecraft
keyboard. Keyboards are basically commodity items. There is no margin on
them for Elecraft to try to get into that market.

Yep, already done that. All but the full wave 40M loop are fairly isolated,
out over the garage area. The 40M loop is about 9' over my head when at the
operating position and that was a bit of a concern. Duty cycle of course enters
into the equation and that sorta brought things down well into

Hi Jim,
Those inexpensive adapters are passive signal converters, there is no
changing of the PS/2 keyboard protocol to USB going on in there. Currently
the P3/SVGA board does not support PS/2 keyboards.

The K120 is a bit sensitive. Reduced the power to see where it cleared up and
added a couple of ferrites. Good to go.

That's good news Alan, I've been looking forward to that. I have no room

I need to issue a correction for a statement I made in an earlier post

Hi David,
I'm currently working on the USB keyboard option for the P3. I can't give
an exact release date, but I'm guessing in the next month or two. Do you
currently run much data and if so, what mode?

Nice to hear you are onto the P3 USB Interface. I've never been 100% clear

Rick, why would expanding to PSK63 require access to a PC? I would assume
there is more than enough signal processing within the P3 and K3 to deal
with that -- but maybe that wasn't the original intent (to do more work in
the P3). Clearly if an external PC is required that would defeat the
I enjoy PSK63 but rarely run across it. However, I suspect that re-doing the
K3 firmware to include PSK63 is not in Paul's intended area.
I just hope he can get the existing K3 modes working for now, we can hope for
adding other modes to the K3 later.

More specific please - is that limited to PSK-D and FSK-D modes?
I am making the assumption that the keyboard will not run DATA A or AFSK

Hi Don,
There is no additional signal processing being done on the P3/SVGA to
support other digital modes. The P3/SVGA USB Keyboard is just that, a
keyboard input device that can be used to send data to the K3. Data
decoded from the K3 is fed back to the SVGA for display.Think of a
Hi Paul,
I do a lot of digital modes. having a keyboard PSK31 and RTTY interface
would be a nice complement to the K3 CW paddle interface. Being able to
read on the P3 display ( either or both SVGA and P3) also would be the
match for me.
Mostly I run much more robust modes as part of NBEMS.

Hi Tony,
Yes, in order to use the USB keyboard on the P3 you will need to install the
SVGA option. The SVGA board has the USB port. Once installed, a USB
keyboard can then be plugged in directly. Nothing else is needed.

Hi John,
Yes of course, CW is included!
It's probably not a good idea to keep talking about the USB keyboard as
some sort of 'datamode' option for the P3/SVGA. It really is just a
keyboard that can be plugged into the P3, and then the P3/SVGA becomes a
data terminal much like how the K3
