I once took what would looked on camera as a hand grenade, same shape, size and bits of wire coming out of it - actually a motor on a prony brake - thro UK and USA airports and not challenged. I suggested their equipment might need attention and was threatened by an armed plain-clothes person

Many times, carry one radios are swiped with a small pad that is then tested for whatever should not show up. Checked bags with radios are many times opened and checked. The bad news of this the re-packing of the radio is sometimes haphazard and not as good as you did. I am called on to
