Rose Kopp makes a nice padded case for the radio, but I'm not sure I'd want
to put it inside checked luggage unless it was something like a Pelican
with lots of foam all around..

Being a bit of a pessimist, and having seen the way airline baggage
handlers treat my luggage, I recently traveled with a K3 with Samlex 1223
p/s and a laptop with it's p/s in a Pelican 1510, made to airline carry-on
maximum dimensions.

The K3 rode 'side-saddle', with the rubber feet on the 'back' of the case
(knobs on the right). I had to remove the handle, leaving room for 1/8" of
foam between the K3 and the 'front' of the case. Lots of room for foam to
protect the knobs, and lots of room for the p/s on the 'left' of the case,
separated from the K3 by more foam. This allowed the back of the K3 to rest
on the foam when the Pelican was in the 'wheeled' position. The entire
combination is heavy enough that I don't like to carry it from one end of
DFW to the other (been there, done that). The laptop was placed on top of
the K3, with more foam between. I felt that the K3 was reasonably well
protected in this arrangement. The case fits perfectly in an overhead bin.

The Pelican 1520 might be better for the radio & p/s, but might not hold
the laptop, and the dimensions could be challenged by an over-zealous
airline employee.

I would not trust the K3 to checked baggage without 2" (or more) of foam on
all sides, this in a hard-sided case.
