I totally agree. I don't think we have gotten a definitive answer as to whether the K2 bail will fit on the K3. I was under the impression that it does not. To another poster, no, I haven't gotten my habit from Yaesu radios, but rather the ICOM-718 with which I started my second career as a ham.

The K3 bail is 6 3/8 inches between the mounting feet (not the centers), and the K2 bail is not quite 5 inches. So they are not interchangeable - the length is different. Now, if one wanted to drill new holes in the K3 bottom cover, I guess the K2 bail could be made to fit - but I would not want

The 2 height of the K3's tilt stand is a compromise: lower than the K2, higher than some other rigs. We arrived at this height after a lot of experimentation, and would rather not change it. All of our tilt stands are custom-designed, so we incur significant tooling costs. The K2 tilt

Recently I read something on this list about a reduced-height bail for the K2. I think my K3 would be a bit easier to use if the height of the bail were reduced about in half, but so far as I can tell Elecraft doesn't offer sch an option. Is there an after-market supplier? -- 73, Pete N4ZR

Pete - Yes, Elecraft does offer a 1.5 high tilt-bail (they call it a tilt-stand). Part number ETS15. I purchased one of these for use with my K2, and another for the KPA100 / KAT100 combination that I built into a EC2 cabinet. The regular 3 tilt-stand that comes standard with the K2

Thanks! The current one only elevates the frot bottom edge of my K3 2 1/4, so I'm not sure a 1 1/2 tilt stand located an inch behind the front panel would be enough different to matter. Maybe I'll just fold it down and put something under the front edge. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest

That's what I had to do Pete. The bail is far too tall for me also. After trying to whittle wood and bend metal, I finally cut some dense closed cell foam on my band saw and made a nice little riser for the front. 73 Tom Thanks! The current one only elevates the frot bottom edge of my K3 2

Actually that sounds reasonable. The item may not cost a whole lot to manufacture, but by the time you add in the overhead cost of having it on hand, paying someone to take the order, go get it from stock, package and label it, and then give it to the shipper you end up with having to price

The typical cost to take a parts order and ship a part at Ameritron, back in the 1980's, was about $20. That does not include the shipping fees, just the overhead to take an order, pick the part, pack the part, and do the shipping labels, handle the invoice or paperwork. Shipping small low

I am pretty sure that I have been told by someone at Elecraft that the K2 tilt bail does not fit the K3. My own solution is to fold the bail down and use a piece of 1x2 wood instead. The real long dimension of a 1x2 of course is 1 1/2 which seems the ideal height for me. Works for me, but if
