found the gain was set no nothing and I reset the gain wide open for the iMic.

I was sitting here thinking about how I hadn't tried any SDR applications since
upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1, so I thought I'd give it a quick try. The first
thing I found that I needed to do was exactly what Joe suggested, "Widows
generally selects "1 channel" as the default for any USB microph

Open the Windows Sound Control Panel.
Select the Recording tab
double click the iMic (probably Microphone)
Select the Advanced tab
Change the Default Format to "2 channel, 16 bit 48000 Hz (DVD
Quality)" or a higher sample rate if the iMIC supports it.
