Not SSB, but I did work them on three bands CW with a K3/10 and random
wire . Got them all three times with just a couple of calls from here
on the east coast. I suspect they have some really ideal beach-side
antenna setups. And somebody has turned the propagation switch on.

Don't forget that both ends of the QSO have very good receivers ;o)

I think you will find that the majority of them are using FT450's! Yaesu
lent the group ten of them after the shipping container didn't arrive due to
a ship breakdown. There may have been other rigs hand carried by other
members of the party I admit.

Good grief, that was almost TOO EASY with the KPA500 on line! Heard them a few
minutes ago on 14.182 indicating they were listening up 5. Hit split, cranked
VFO B to 14.187. The amp was already in operate as I had just changed from 15
meter RTTY so I gave 'em a call. Green lights all over
If it was too easy, try 5 W next time :)

And here I was proud of working them on 80m SSB around 0700z this past
Sunday morning with 100W and my low (22ft high) doublet. It took a
couple of calls but I'm in the log. I think that is my best DX on 80m
ever, not that I ever really tried before.
Let me say that the addition of the P3 makes

Before this past week I've never operated anything but SSB. But with the
memories and decoding capabilities of the K3, plus being able to find
the holes in the pileups with the P3, I've got T32C on 19 out of the 21
slots my antenna is capable of. This setup makes it so easy.

I got them on 20m and 17m with K3/10 and vertical. Not pure 5 W really, but
this is one of the hardest locations for QSO from here.
