Tom was one of the first folks I met on the Elecraft reflector and helped
me a lot with my K2. We corresponded on and off through the years.
We worked in contests and even met at a TenTec Hamfest way back when. He was
always friendly and upbeat.
I knew of his health issues, but I didn't
I first met Tom at the Elecraft booth at the Kirkwood, MO hamfest around 2000.
He was vibrantly hyping the K2 which I had just started to build. He probably
met 1,500 people that day. Through the years I'd call on Tom for help on
various projects and he was always quick to respond. The

Elecraft is fortunate to have some of the best customers--and friends--
a small company could hope for. And then there was Tom Hammond.
Tom was there nearly from the beginning, in 1999, gently but firmly
pushing us in the right direction. He helped us test and refine K2 and
K3 hardware,
Damn. For once I don't have a clever comeback.
I've known Tom for 11 or 12 years, since he helped me get K2 no. 709 working.
We had
literally hundreds of conversations after that, by email, radio and Skype. The
man simply
lived to help others.
What a loss.

It wasn't a big surprise but, even so, the reality is like being punched in

Our e-mail correspondence must be close to a thousand since I first met him
here 11 years ago. And then there were the chats by telephone as worked on
various projects, but we never met face to face. Even so, I

Tom sure will be missed. I remember him from our old Fox Tango Days 30 plus
years ago when Milt Lowen N4ML
ran the net and published the newsletters and we were running FT-101E's. He was
a great help to that group also.

Tom was relentlessly positive and giving ... I've had the pleasure of
knowing him for 35+ years ... back to the early days of the FT-101 and
the Fox-Tango group. We exchanged many mail and e-mail messages in
those years and worked the FoxTango booth with Milt and Ida Lowens at
Dayton for a few
Don't worry Joe, I am sure my Pat is right now introducing him around so
he gets to know everyone. She never met him but I am sure the two would
have been fast buds. Now is her chance to get to know him as well as you
did.

Tom was the first ham I met when I moved from AR to MO in 1981. I ID'd
on the repeater and there he was. I bought a house across the river
from Jeff City and so was in a different ham club, but did see him from
time to time and will always remember a few things.
He was a big contester and
This is just not goodhorrible news I will miss Tom. I will miss his CW
fist in contests. What a great man. Ham radio has lost a wonderful person who
was a true gentleman. May God bless his family.
He was fun to work in the CW contests...always stopping to chat on CW at high
speed.
So sorry to hear about Tom...
I began the Elecraft experience by building K2 1188 in May 2000 while
living in the Shetland Islands UK.
I have been licensed for many years and this totally revitalised Ham
radio for me, together with the Elecraft reflector and all the good
and knowledgeable people

Kent,
Thanks for the news, but yes, it leaves me with a very heavy heart. Tom
was a great friend, and Tom's courage was contagious. His experiences
helped me deal sensibly with my own battle with cancer and chemo
treatments. He will be sorely missed.
Yes, I am one of those cancer survivors
Oh, my. Terribly sorry to hear that. Tom was a good guy, good op, good
friend, just a wonderful human being with so much optimism, determination
and courage. We'll all miss him a lot.
