How effective or necessary is a PR6 preamp for 6m operation? Is thing
specific to installing and configuring the PR6 on a K3?
Thanks 73,

I recently installed one with the addition of my 6M5XHP at 35ft. Turning it
on and off makes a noticeable difference in what can be heard. I live in a
development which is plopped down in an otherwise rural area. I wouldn't
call it a quiet RFI environment but not terrible either.

Hi Barry,
It works really well and the physical package and it's implementation is
well engineered. If you have a poor 6 meter antenna (such as using your
tuner with an existing antenna) and just want to try out the band you
probably don't need the PR6. Chances are you will only be able to work
In my case, compared with my Icoms which have dedicated 6m front end, K3 is
very deaf in 6m. I have tried a number of preamps as a kind of experiment. I
eventually settle at Extra-6 from www.ha8et.hu
I only need a good pre-amp and do not need the extra switching function in PR6.
I go for
PR6 Low Noise 6m GaAs FET Preamp for the K3 and most other rigs(Connects
to the RX IN/OUT conn. on the KXV3.) Uses two BNC-MM connectors
(INCLUDED). Original box, $125. Plus shipping. Mike, W4UM. Reply to
