When using sound card modes, I like to make sure that my
computer and all the chain of cables/devices etc. to the K3
haven't decided to adjust the levels when I wasn't paying
attention. I'm always switching back and fourth between the
displays since Don's point about SWR/RF is also correct.

I do believe that is correct. There is really no need to have comp/alc
displayed unless you are adjusting the mic level.
OTOH, SWR/RF gives you an indication that "all is well" when transmitting.
