Wayne, getting covid to be able to tell an Elecraft marketing story is a bit extreme. QRP is dangerous. I got Covid at FDIM 2024. Glad you are feeling better. Enjoy those bonding times. My eldest daughter over the weekend was recalling times she went hilltop hiking, camping and contesting with me. That was close to 40 years ago. Good times. John NS6X

It's worth watching if you missed it, and a rewatch if you didn't, especially given the heroic role of Morse code in the second half. No spoilers! Enjoy the "fireworks." 73, Wayne N6KR -- Elecraft, Inc. ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Wed, 2 Jul 2025 10:43:52 -0700 From: Wayne Burdick <n...@elecraft.com> To: elecraft <elecraft@mailman.qth.net> Subject: [Elecraft] N6KR COVID/Field Day report Message-ID: <CAE8SmRVDkEAd8XxVPRpdsbuiRcYbSvt8-8FDKtqB4iqbrQ=g...@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" No, that subject isn't an auto-correct fail: I managed to come down with Covid just as FD 2025 was starting. On Friday evening, I had mild symptoms I assumed were consistent with a cold or allergy. Then on Saturday, sleep-deprived and against everyone else's better judgment, I decided to go ahead with my 1B-battery operation as planned. My son, Griffin, was home from college for a few days and came along. He's been going to Field Day since he was six and was willing to humor me. We drove to the coast and started hiking up the trail from Highway 1 in Pacifica toward what would have been a breathtaking view overlooking Point San Pedro. We'd gone 90% of the way up, in the hot sun, when I got lightheaded and realized I had better get off the trail. Griff found a clear spot in the shade, kept me hydrated and checked my vitals. Then he put up an antenna and got my KX2 ready to go, just in case I was up to operating. Turns out I was -- but I had to do it lying down. This meant switching to the KH1, which I could use hand-held, logging on the paper logbook tray. (The log tray has a detent mechanism that keeps it open and locked in place even if the rig is upside-down.) I made one quick contact, but by then I was in worse shape. I rested for about an hour before we decided it was best to go back. Normally on an outing like this I'd be jogging both up and down through the switchbacks, even with a pack on. But now even going downhill was slow-going due to my queasiness and lack of energy. We had to stop three times. For a while I thought I might be suffering from heat exhaustion. But much later, with a low fever and chills, I took a Covid test and found that was the real diagnosis. Saturday night was rough but Griffin set up an AX3 and KX2 for me to use in bed Sunday morning to get in a few more Field Day QSOs. Despite being indoors, running 5 W, and using a 4 foot whip, I managed contacts as far away as Maryland. This year's FD would have been very disappointing if it hadn't been for the father/son bonding opportunity. We've also vowed to return to the same spot next year, and possibly even operate from San Pedro rocks at low tide. 73, Wayne N6KR -- Elecraft, Inc. ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Wed, 2 Jul 2025 11:09:02 -0700 From: David Gilbert <ab7e...@gmail.com> To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] N6KR COVID/Field Day report Message-ID: <325cfb5d-523a-4666-a95b-051a64212...@gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Was that a recurrence of an earlier COVID infection ... or was it new for you? I had Covid only once, back in 2020, and got over it after a few days. I keep up with all the boosters, including one just a couple of months ago. My wife looked up the current stats and discovered there's a new strain that the booster doesn't work well on. Probably what I got. But I'm feeling much friskier today, thank you :) Wayne On Wed, Jul 2, 2025 at 11:09?AM David Gilbert <ab7e...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Was that a recurrence of an earlier COVID infection ... or was it new > for you? > > Dave AB7E > > > > On 7/2/2025 10:43 AM, Wayne Burdick wrote: > > No, that subject isn't an auto-correct fail: I managed to come down with > > Covid just as FD 2025 was starting. > > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Message delivered to n...@elecraft.com -- Elecraft, Inc. ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Wed, 2 Jul 2025 13:01:13 -0600 From: Myron Schaffer <myronschaf...@gmail.com> To: Wayne Burdick <n...@elecraft.com> Cc: elecraft <elecraft@mailman.qth.net> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] OT: Morse code saves the world on July 4th Message-ID: <ad3ed38f-cfbd-47ee-b561-a95ae6f5a...@gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 I don?t know what was more real, the Morse code that sent or the aliens. . . PTT IN on the back panel does not work. When I ohm it shows totally open with power off.? Good K3 has resistance reading and 5 V present when powered.? PTT works on the front Mic jack and also via the 15 pin ACC plug.? This is a used radio I obtained.? Acts like the line is not even wired internally but wanted to double check that there is not anything that can inhibit that jack.? Personally I think it is disconnected somewhere inside the radio.?
