New diodes arrived yesterday, thanks to Richard at Elecraft. After
installation and re-calibration of the SWR/wattmeter, everything looks
good, I made two quick contacts on 20m PSK31, one in Greece, the other
in Slovak Republic.
Thanks again Don, Richard, and Elecraft!

Hello Bill,
Thanks for the tips and I got my downloaded version at US$12.
The user guide was well written and highly readable (Sorry, English is my

Dave, ordered the hard copy (spiral bound) with the discount code at lulu.com

Great start and I'll enter my K3 S/N.
What I was actually hoping to find out however, was two things:
1) How many K3s have been shipped to date?
and...
2) To have a ready reference when someone posts one for sale as to its date
of manufacture?
S/N tracking seems to be an issue with just

Because Elecraft offers upgrade kits that can be installed, any K3 (or

After I've installed and used the config utility, is there a way to change the
location where the config files are stored/retrieved? There's a browse option
for the firmware but not for the config files. I don't remember if there was a
browse option at install.

No article, no discussion on any reflector will bring any change in this

The K3 has a per-band/per-antenna DIGOUT1 line on the 15pin AUX connector.
If you use the Elecraft 15-pin AUX cable, DIGOUT1 is tied to the KPA500
inhibit line. So, DIGOUT1=ON means AMP INHIBIT=ON.
For example, if you have a SteppIR (which can be resonant at 40m and up) on
ANT1, you can set

I am not so sure I really want to see a very active cycle :-)
With the explosive sales of HF gear over the last few years, and a big rise in
activity etc, the bands will get swamped with signals IF we get a good cycle.
You will need every filter you can muster, to pull a readable signal out of

Ken,
The actual power output will vary from KX1 to KX1 due to care in
building as well as component tolerances.
The power mod is helpful in about 50% of the KX1s with the KXB3080 option.
If you do install the power mod resistors at the start, save the 22 ohm

All of the config files are stored in the User:Library:Application
Support:Elecraft folder on OS X. This cannot be changed. However whenever you
save the K3 configuration (from the Configuration tab) you have the option of
saving the .k3config files anywhere you want.

This may already have been asked and/or answered (so please forgive the
redundant request), but my question is this - is the KXPA100 is expected to be
usable (externally) with a K3-10? I have a K3-10 and would rather use a future
KXPA100 with it for the occasions where higher power is needed
Yes.

Karl,
We are all learning how to drive the K3, making mistakes and assumptions
as we go along that path. The K3 is a highly configurable transceiver.
Just enjoy the performance with the default settings at first, you will
have a capable and good transceiver. As you determine what it can

While assembling my new K2, I've lost some of the LED backlight

I don't see where the LED backlight spacers are used, are they? If
so I should order a replacement.
